SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION AND
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMISSION COMPENSATION
CAO RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution increasing compensation for Planning Commission and Architectural Review
Commission members from $25 to $50 per meeting, not to exceed$200 monthly.
DISCUSSION
At the May 22, 2001 budget workshop, the Council directed staff to return with a resolution
increasing compensation for Planning Commission and Architectural Review Commission
members from $25 to $50 per meeting. This is the purpose of the attached resolution, which also
proportionally increases the monthly maximum from $100 to $200. The attached resolution also
calls for a periodic review of Commissioner compensation in conjunction with the review of
Council compensation.
FISCAL IMPACT
Based on fourteen Commission members and an average of three meetings per month, this
increases the current annual budget for Commissioner compensation from $12,800 to $25,600.
This increase ($12,800 annually) will have a nominal impact on the budget, and does not
adversely affect its "balanced" status. The final Financial Plan will reflect this change.

Subject: Compensation for the Planning Commission
Hi Sherry-
I would really appreciate it if you could provide a copy of this message to Council members prior to this
evening's meeting.
Thank you,
Stephen Peterson
Dear Mayor Settle and Councilmembers,
On behalf of the Planning Commission, I would like to thank you for considering an increase in our per
meeting compensation. At our last heaing, the Commission discussed the potential raise. Commissioners
felt extremely gratified that it was being considered, and agreed that it represents a vote of confidence
from the Council-as well as an acknowledgement of the time, energy and commitment each of us
dedicate to the job.
Unanimously, the Planning Commission would like to express its enthusiastic support for the proposed
compensation increase and thanks you for this acknowledgement.
Sincerely,
Stephen Peterson
Chairman, Planning Commission
