CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
FROM: Bill Statler,Director of Finance
Prepared By: Sharon McMahan, Accounting Assistant
SUBJECT: SURPLUS CITY PROPERTY
CAO RECOMMENDATIONS:
Adopt a resolution declaring equipment as surplus property.
DISCUSSION
Section 906 of the City Charter requires that the City Council approve the sale or disposal of
surplus property with an estimated value greater than $100. The following items are recommended
for surplus by the Departments of Public Works and Parks&Recreation.
Public Works Department
Public Works has identified the following equipment surplus to the needs of the City:
1. One Markrite airless line striper has bad brakes and a bad differential. It is estimated we will
receive $500 in proceeds from this disposal. Staff is reviewing the options for a replacement
unit.
2. A Sullair 7.5 hp air compressor, Model Number XL215TTTL7026ARL is no longer being
used at Sinsheimer Pool. It has been replaced by a modular compressor system. It is
estimated we will receive$2,000 in proceeds from this disposal.
3. Three (3) Bennett gas pumps, Model #3722 are left over from the new above-ground tank
installation. It is estimated we will receive$1,500 in proceeds from this disposal.
Parks and Recreation Department
Parks and Recreation identified one Risograph copy machine, Model RC6300, as surplus to the
needs of the City. The machine, similar to a mimeograph machine, was purchased in 1993 for
$9,995. We have been told that it will cost $1,200-$1,500 to repair this item. It will not be
replaced because new computer technology available can do the job better for less money. The
value of this machine is minimal, with estimates ranging from $1004500.
The disposal method will be in accordance with the City's surplus property policy as determined by
the Director of Finance to be in the best interest of the City.
