Subject: Water Supply Planning—Desalination Ir tV—dMf ❑ HR DIR
The importance of our being able to develop additional sources of water in a timely
manner as been high on our list of City goals for many years. We have a number of
projects in process, all at the planning stage, and all with significant work and issues yet
to be resolved. Right now, however, desalination is not being studied and yet it may
prove to be a cost competitive and timely option. Therefore, while we work on other
projects, it would also make sense to begin developing added information about current
desalination options and opportunities. With my colleagues endorsement, I would like to
encourage staff to begin such research and to report their findings to the City Council
next spring, during our annual consideration of the Water Resources Status Report.
