CAO RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Approve plans and specifications for"Rodriguez Adobe Neighborhood Park Improvements,
Specification No. 90273"
2. Authorize staff to solicit bids
3. Authorize the City Administrative Officer to award a contract if the lowest responsible bid is
within the engineer's estimate
DISCUSSION
This project is the first of two landscape improvement projects anticipated for this area. It will
install irrigation, turf, and temporary landscape planting on the 1.25-acre site surrounding the
Rodriguez Adobe. The resulting improvements will create a passive neighborhood park for the
residential development adjacent to the adobe property.
A second project, at some point in the future, will provide detailed landscape development plans
adjacent to and in conjunction with restoration of the adobe structure; a separate cooperative
project between the City and the Friends of Las Casas de Adobe. That project will be consistent
with the Parks and Recreation Element and require review by the Parks and Recreation
Commission, the Architectural Review Commission, and the Cultural Heritage Commission.
CONCURRENCES
The Park and Recreation Commission have endorsed this project.
The Community Development Director has approved this project.
FISCAL IMPACT
Engineer's Estimate $75,000
Contingencies at 10 Percent 7,500
Total $82,500
Budget Available $169,000
This budget available was appropriated in the 2001-03 Financial Plan. (See pages E-11 and E-36
of the Financial Plan and pages 311-12 of Appendix B to the Financial Plan.)

The balance remaining in the project budget after completion will be reserved for future
construction of final landscape improvements and site amenities.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Do not landscape at this time but await completion of the Adobe restoration. This is not
recommended because of the desires of the surrounding neighborhood for dust control
and aesthetics issues.
Plans and specifications are available for review in the City Clerk's office.
