SUBJECT: COUNCIL MEETINGS FOR THE MONTHS OF DECEMBER 2001,
JANUARY AND FEBRUARY 2002
CAO RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Reschedule the second regular meeting in December 2001 from Tuesday,December 18`s
to Tuesday, December 11th.
2. Reschedule the first and second meetings in January 2002 from Tuesday, January 151 to

3. Call a special meeting for Tuesday, February 26, 2001 for the purpose of conducting the
Mid-Year Budget Review.
DISCUSSION
The regular Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 18, 2001 is very close to the
Christmas holiday and conflicts with the League of California Cities' Annual Conference.
The first regular Council meeting in January 2002 falls on New Year's Day, a legal holiday.
Although Section 2.04.010 of the City's Municipal Code states, "In the event that a regular
meeting of the Council falls on a legal holiday, then the regular meeting shall be held at the same
place and time on the next succeeding working day," many local schools remain closed for
winter recess. There are five Tuesdays in January 2002. Staff suggests changing the meetings
from the first and third Tuesdays to the second and fourth Tuesdays.
Staff requests a separate meeting for review of the Mid—Year Budget and is recommending that
the Council meet on the evening of Tuesday, February 26, 2002.
ALTERNATIVES
1. Cancel the second meeting in December. Staff anticipates, however, a second meeting
will be needed to consider matters of business that require Council action.
2. Council could agree to move the first meeting in January 2002 from Tuesday,January 15`
to Wednesday, January 26a in accordance with the Municipal Code. As noted above,.
local schools will still be on winter holiday break.
3. Make no change to the second regular meeting date in January 2002.
4. Provide staff with alternative direction for the Mid-Year Budget Review. '/
