SPECIFICATION NO. 99858
CAO RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Approve Specifications for Palm Street Garage Paint Project, Specification No. 99858
2. Authorize staff to advertise for bids
3. Authorize the CAO to award the contract to the lowest responsible bidder within the
engineer's estimate of$70,000
DISCUSSION
The Palm Street Parking Garage has been operational since late 1987., Over the years only
portions of the garage have been repainted to address maintenance issues. Given the time that
has elapsed,the garage needs to be cleaned and painted in order to insure the longevity of the
building.
When the garage was first completed there were concerns of the"appearance"of the new facility,
namely the brighter colors that were used,at the time. The current Council raised this matter last
year when the repaint project was brought up. The original red will be toned down with a
Community Development approved softer"Eldorado Red", which is more muted and was
actually an alternate color for the original project. The teal grille work will be cleaned and
polished in place to freshen the color, but not create an overbearing brightness to the garage. The
wheat color will be repainted to "clean-up"the overall look of the garage.
FISCAL IMPACT
Engineer's Estimate $70,000
Contingencies at 10% $7,000
Total Project Budget Needed $779000
The City's 2001-03 Financial Plan budgeted $100,000 for Garage Renovation and Repairs,
which included painting the Palm Garage. There is $92,000 remaining in the current CIP budget
for garage repairs to cover the cost of the repaint project.
