1. Why do you want to serve on a City advisory body?
Being a resident of San Luis Obispo for some time now, I cherish this community's
environment and I am very interested in the future of San Luis Obispo. I want SLO to be
a place to raise my children and also a place where they could raise their families, which
means great schools, available head of household jobs, affordable housing, and a variety
of educational, cultural, athletic and entertainment activities.
2. Why do you want to be a member of the Planning Commission and what do you hope to
accomplish?
I have worked in both private and public sectors of community planning, but.not from an
appointed or elected position. I would like to participate in other aspects of planning to
help me better understand the broader perspectives of the development community, the
planners, the applicants, and the public. What I would hope to accomplish would be to
help San Luis Obispo in its Smart Growth approach. San Luis Obispo shouldn't be kept
small or expand to be a metropolis, but should find appropriate areas for increased
density in a compact urban form.to maintain its small town community feeling and
charm.
3. Have you ever attended a.meeting of the Planning Commission, or another City advisory body?
What observations did you make?
Yes. I have attended and also watched, on TV,many City Council and Planning
Commission hearings. In one particular meeting, the members did not feel there was
sufficient information available to make the right decision and they asked the Planners to
have more studies done. They not only make important decisions, but also make them
when the right amount of supportive information is presented. Another meeting had great
discussions between the commissioners. The interactions of the members often produce
excellent collaborative results.

4. What qualities, experience and expertise make you a good candidate for the Planning
Commission?
I have my undergraduate degree in Forestry and Natural Resources, with a concentration
in Environmental Management, which I have completed classes in CEQA and NEPA
during that time. I was an officer of the student club of Association of Environmental
Professionals(AEP)and am now the President. One of my duties; as the president, is to
meet with the Channel Counties Chapter Board of the Professional AEP. I am currently
working on my Masters in City and Regional Planning with an emphasis in Geographic
Information Systems. I also started working full-time for the County Planning
Department as a Mapping/Graphics Systems Specialist. I am familiar with SLOCOG and
the work being done on the HCD's housing mandates. Most of all I care for the future of
this city.
.5. In your view, what are some key planning issues in SLO?
® Affordable housing
Costs and availability decreasing
■ Circulation
Proper street flow
■ Economic vitalization
Strong Downtown commercial area
• Long term sustainable water supply
Source of water in the future
6. Is there any additional information about yourself you'd like to share? (Please feel free to attach a
resume,if you have one).
I attended the Cal APA(American Planning Association) conference in San Diego a few
weeks ago and sat in on the session titled Ethical Decision Making for Planning
Commissioners, where I gathered, great information on making the right decisions. I have
also attended the last three AEP state conferences and plan to attend the one in March of
next year. I am interested in keeping up to date with the new legislation and programs
both for the environmentalist and the planner in me. I have loved San Luis Obispo and its
surrounding areas for a longtime now and wish to continue being a resident of this great
community.
