Appoint Susan Rains to the Mass Transportation Committee to fill the Cal Poly Representative position. DISCUSSION A vacancy exists on the Mass Transportation Committee due to the resignation of Deby Anderson. Ms. Anderson has retired from her position at Cal Poly; Susan Rains has taken her place. After meeting with Ms. Rains the Council Subcommittee is pleased to recommend her for appointment. ATTACHMENT 1. Serving on this advisory body, I would be replacing the previous Cal Poly representative. 2. Why do you want to be a member of the MTC and what do you hope to accomplish? As Cal Poly's new Commuter and Access Services Coordinator 1 am responsible for the Transportation Demand Management program for the university. It is my job to promote alternative transportation to students, staff and faculty.This advisory body covers matters that are of great importance to my position and the university community as a whole. I hope to accomplish being a part of the process that monitors and improves mass transportation in our city by having positive and innovative input on behalf of the university. 3. Have you ever attended a meeting of the MTC or another City advisory body? What observations did you make? What qualities,experience and expertise make you a good candidate for the MTC? I have a very positnre'approach to things in general.Being the Commuter and Access Services Coordinator for Cal Poly, I am exposed to issues relating to mass transit on a daily basis. San Luis Obispo County has been my home for the past 26 years,giving me a good overall knowledge of the area. I have owned small businesses here,worked at Cal Poly for 15 years, and have raised 7 children here. 5. In your view,what are some key transportation issues in SLO? • Funding for adequate bus service • Traffic congestion • Air quality • Parking issues • Promotion and support for alternative transportation 6.
