SUBJECT: Appointment recommendation to the Tree Committee
CAO RECOMMENDATION
By motion, appoint Eve Vigil to the Tree Committee for a four year term to
expire March 31, 1997.
DISCUSSION
Mike Zohns is resigning from the Tree Committee after four years of service. Based on review
of the appplications and interviews conducted in March 1993 during which another vacancy was
filled, staff recommends appointing Eve Vigil to serve on the Tree Committee. Eve has served
previously on the Tree Committee as the Parks and Recreation Commission representative. Her
horticultural background and past experience on the committee makes her an excellent choice to
fill this vacancy.
The Tree Committee has been designated.by the City Council as a "Technical and Special
Purpose" Advisory Committee and, therefore, no Council Liaison Committee involvement in the
selection process was required. As such, the applicants were interviewed by Lane Wilson, Parks
and Buildings Manager and Todd Martin, City Arborist.
Ms. Vigils's application is attached along with Mike Zohns letter of resignation. All other
applications are in the Council office for review.

Dear Todd:
With my ever increasing busy schedule, it becomes harder and harder to find
the time to participate in the activities and meetings of the Street Tree
Committee. I realize that this makes it rather difficult for the committee to
conduct business when members are not able to make all of the meetings, and
feel that I need to extend my apologizes to the committee members for my
sporadic absenteeism.
At this time I feel that it is in the best interest of the Street Tree Committee for me
to relinquish my position to someone with perhaps a more open schedule so as
to be able to better serve the needs of the committee.
I have enjoyed the many years of involvement with the tree programs of the city,
and wish the committee success with its efforts in the future.
