SUBJECT: 2011 APPOINTMENTS TO CITY ADVISORY BODIES
RECOMMENDATION
As recommended by the Council Subcommittee Members, make appointments effective April 1,
2011, to the City's advisory bodies as listed below, and direct the City Clerk to continue to recruit
for the unfilled positions.
DISCUSSION
Background
San Luis Obispo has a long history of involving its citizens in the business of City government.
Holding a position on an advisory committee and/or commission provides an opportunity for
interested residents to participate in the governing of their community under guidelines and
procedures established by Council. The City holds an Annual Advisory Body Recruitment to fill
those positions which commence on April I".
This year the City recruited to fill 34 scheduled and unscheduled advisory body positions. A
total of 60 applications were received. The recruitment was conducted between January 3, 2011,
and January 31, 2011. Council Liaison Subcommittees conducted interviews throughout the
month of February.
No vacancies currently exist on the Tree Committee and therefore no recruitment was held.
Council Liaison Subcommittee Recommendations
Architectural Review Commission (Subcommittee Members Ashbaugh and Marx)
1. Reappoint Michelle McCovey-Good to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
2. Reappoint Ken Curtis to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
Bicycle Advisory Committee (Subcommittee Members Carpenter and Marx)
1. Appoint Howard Weisenthall to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
2. Appoint Catherine Machado to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
Construction Board of Appeals (Subcommittee Members Carpenter and Carter)
1. Reappoint Niel Dilworth to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.

Cultural Heritage Committee (Subcommittee Members Carpenter and Smith)
1. Reappoint Ken Kalkowski to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
2. Appoint Bob Pavlik to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015,
3. Appoint Jaime Hill to a two year term expiring March 31, 2013.
4. Appoint John Fowler to a one year term expiring March 31, 2012.
Housing Authority Board(Subcommittee Members Marx)
1. Reappoint Marti Reed as a Board Member to a four year term expiring March 31,2015.
2. Reappoint Elizabeth Steinberg as a Board Memberto a four year term expiring March 31,
2015.
3. Reappoint Lyn Brumley as the Senior Tenant Representative to a two year term expiring
March 31, 2013.
4. Reappoint Mandi Milliken as a Tenant Representative to a two year term expiring March
31, 2013.
5. Continue to recruit for one unfilled Board Member vacancy.
Human Relations Commission (Subcommittee Members Smith and Carpenter)
1. Appoint Norie Placek to a four year term expiring on March 31, 2015.
2. Appoint Ronald Tilley to a four year term expiring on March 31, 2015.
3. Reappoint Charlene Rosales to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
Jack House Committee (Subcommittee Members Carpenter and Ashbaugh)
1. Reappoint Kathi Settle to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
Joint Use of Recreational Facilities Committee (Subcommittee Members Carter and
Carpenter)
1. Reappoint Michael Parolini to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
2. Continue to recruit for three unfilled vacancies.
Mass Transportation Committee(Subcommittee Members Smith and Marx)
1. Appoint Jody Frey as the Representative with a Disability to a four year term expiring
March 31, 2015.
2. Appoint Jean Long as the Student Representative to a four year term expiring March 31,
2015.
3. Appoint Todd Katz as the Member at Large to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
Parks and Recreation Commission (Subcommittee Members Marx and Carpenter)
1. Reappoint Steve Davis to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
2. Reappoint Craig Kincaid to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.

1. Reappoint Carol Sexton to a four year term expiring March 31, 2015.
