SUBJECT: Sale of Surplus City Property
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached Resolution declaring the vehicles listed in Exhibit A as surplus property to
allow the sale at public auction or direct sale to other public agencies, or other method of
disposal as determined by the Director of Finance.
DISCUSSION
Section 906 of the City Charter requires that the City Council approve the sale of surplus
property with an estimated value greater than $100.
The Staff has identified the 22 vehicles listed in Exhibit A as surplus equipment which require
City Council approval to sell or dispose. These vehicles have been replaced by later model
vehicles during the last two years in accordance with the draft Fleet Management Policy. As
reflected in the attached list, each of these vehicles has exceeded its estimated useful life
in terms of age, operating cost, miles, or hours of operation. The last auction of City vehicles
was conducted in January 1988 at which time 28 vehicles were sold.
Under the City's property disposal policies, these vehicles will be offered to other local
government agencies prior to being sold at public auction. It is anticipated that $13,000 to
$33,000 will be received in proceeds from the sale of these vehicles. The auction will be
conducted by West Coast Auctioneers in January of 1990.

DECLARING PROPERTY LISTED IN EXHIBIT A
AS SURPLUS PROPERTY

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows:
SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby declares that all items of personal' property
listed in Exhibit A attached and incorporated herein by reference are surplus property.
SECTION 2. Disposal of the property shall be made by sale at auction, direct sale to
other local government agencies,. or as unsalable "junk" in a manner to be determined' by
the Director of Finance.
