The workshop is intended to provide the Council with an opportunity t ohave a conversation with the community regarding the issues and impact sassociated with homelessness in the City of San Luis Obispo . Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe is quoted as saying,"In all things it is bette r to hope than to despair ." So, today , •We need to get our better brains engaged with expressions of wha t our shared hopes are . •We need to move past positions to what the outcomes and solutio n needs to satisfy . •We encourage participation from all attendee s •We are here to foster solutions that incorporate diverse points of vie w •Staff will be taking down public input ; so your ideas will be captured . Here are some basic ground rules : •Turn off all cell phones or make sure they are on vibrate . •Show mutual respect ;respect others when they are talking an d don't interrupt . Please, no disruptive side conversations . • •Accept the fact that there will be differences of opinion .Be ope n to new ideas by respecting the opinions of other s ▪Build on what has been said,do not knock down others' idea s .Treat each other with respect If you agree with a point being made — wave raise your hand s If you disagree with a point being made — thumbs dow n •Be conci▪se so everyone has an opportunity to participate .I f what you were going to say has been stated, you don't have t o speak, or you can just state that you agree with previous speakers . I f you can make your comments in less than three minutes we ca n move on to other speakers . PUBLIC COMMENT :Up to three minutesper speake r The Council welcomes your input . You may address the Council b y completing a yellow speaker slip and giving it to the City Clerk . City Clerk will give speaker cards to Mayor Marx . Mayor Marx will ask that when she calls the names of the speakers, if the y could please line up in order that they were called near the podium . The Council welcomes your input . You may address the Council by completing a speaker sli p and giving it to the City Clerk prior to the meeting . Time limit is three minutes . State law does not allow the Council to discuss or take action on issues not on the agenda, except tha t members of the Council or staff may briefly respond to statements made or questions posed b y persons exercising their public testimony rights (Gov . Code Sec . 54954 .2). Staff may be aske d to follow up on such items . Staff reports and other written documentation relating to each ite m referred to on this agenda are on file in the City Clerk's Office in Room 4 of City Hall . I want to thank you all for your participation . People did a great job o f listening to one another and searching for solutions to homelessness .
