SUBJECT:
Heritage Trees
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution adding Heritage Trees
BACKGROUND:
The Heritage. Tree Program idea has been included in the Tree Ordinance
since 1971 . For many years, there was minimal interest in the
program. In 1984 , the Tree Committee decided that this was a
worthwhile program and that it should be activated. In April 1985 ,
after review of the existing Heritage Trees, proposed trees and the
program literature, the Tree Committee submitted a list of trees for
possible dedication as Heritage Trees. Since 1985, the City Council
has adopted a total of 17 Heritage. Trees. This proposal includes four
additional trees .
Criteria for Heritage Tree designation is a tree that has special
historical or horticultural interest . The Tree Committee reviews the
proposed Heritage Trees for consideration with the following factors
in mind:
1 . Condition and state of health of the specimen
2 . Permanence of site location
3 . Visual accessibility
