HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/06/1990, COMM - EXTENSION OF CITY'S NO-SMOKING ORDINANCE MEM-TING AGENDA DATE 3 - TEM # February 5, 1990 MEMORANDUM To: Council Colleagues From: Jerry Reiss Subject: Extension of City's No-Smoking Ordinance The City presently has a partial "no-smoking" ordinance which extends to public buildings, places of public assembly and, to some degree, restaurants (attached) . I would like to suggest, for your consideration, further extending our no-smoking ordinance so it would pick up virtually all places of public assembly, including restaurants, retail stores, grocery stores, etc. There might be a possible exception for bars by themselves or when separated from a restaurant. Other cities have adopted tougher no-smoking ordinances which is why I am suggesting this. These include Alhambra, Pasadena, and Beverly Hills. Please let me know your thoughts as I would like to have the matter brought before the Council for further fact gathering by the staff and decision by the Council.
