SUBJECT: 1990 census
CAO RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution designating 1990 as "Census Year, "
as requested.
DISCUSSION
Once every ten years, the federal Department of Commerce takes a
census of our nation's population. Rose Marie Sheetz, Morro Bay
mayor and member of the San Luis Obispo County Complete Count
Committee, has asked you to adopt a resolution designating this as
Census Year. This action is part of the efforts by government at
all levels to help achieve a thorough count of residents, so voting
districts can be fairly represented, revenues fairly dispersed, and
the needs of our citizens clearly evaluated.

Adopting the attached draft resolution will fulfill the Complete
Count Committee's request.
CONSEQUENCES OF NOT TARING THE RECOMMENDED ACTION
Adopting the resolution is a small part of census publicity
efforts.

RESOLUTION NO. (1990 SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
DESIGNATING 1990 AS CENSUS YEAR
WHEREAS, a complete count of the city's population is
necessary for; accurate assessment of citizens' needs; fair
representation in county, state, and national legislative
districts; and equitable distribution of revenues .and grants;
The Council of the City of San Luis Obispo resolves that
1990 be designated "Census Year, " and all residents be urged to
complete and return their confidential responses to the census
questionnaires.

As a member of the County Complete Count Committee, I have
been assigned the task of contacting all cities to enlist
their aid in the upcoming 1990 census count. We would
appreciate your cooperation in the follow items:
1. Adopt a resolution designating 1590 as Census Year
to be presented to your Council prior to March.

3 . A reminder with payroll checks to your employees
to return their census form by April 1st.
