Utility Trench Repair, City Plan No. R-35A
CAO RECOMMENDATION:
By motion, approve Plans and Specifications for the 1990 Utility
Trench Repair Project, City Plan No. R-35A; Authorize Staff to
advertise for bids; Authorize the CAO to award a contract within the
Engineer's Estimate.
. BACKGROUND:
When the utilities crews make an excavation to repair water lines, they
patch the street with a temporary pavement. A permanent pavement
repair made at a later date is needed to complete the utility repair.
During the past two years the utilities crews have excavated many more
trenches than were anticipated at budget time. In 1989 the City
awarded a project in the amount of $32,550 for permanent repairs to
utility trenches.
The current backlog of trench repairs that are to be made under this
contract is almost three times the amount of work that was accomplished
in the 1989 contract.
Purchasing Procedures
The provisions of Purchasing Control Manual section PC-403-3 apply to
this contract.
FISCAL IMPACT
Engineer's estimate $89,160
Contingencies @ 5% 4 .458
TOTAL PROJECT COST $93,618
This project is the result of an increase in the number of water line
repairs that was not anticipated at the time the budget was prepared.
Therefore, funds for the project will be made available from the
1989/90 Water Fund Carry-Over. The carry-over funds exist due to
salary savings in various programs.

Funds Available
The funds for this project will come from the water Fund Operating
Budget, water Distribution Program Miscellaneous Capital Maintenance
(050-5063-063-800) .
Recommendation
By motion, approve Plans and specifications for the 1990 Utility Trench
Repair Project, City Plan No. R-35A; Authorize Staff to advertise for
bids; Authorize the CAO to award a contract within the Engineer's
Estimate.
