RECOMMENDATION :
Approve temporary Council Liaison Subcommittee Assignments to fill the vacan t
assignments left by Council Member Carter's resignation .
DISCUSSIO N
On December 18, 2012, Council approved the Council Liaison Subcommittee Assignment s
for 2013 as prescribed by Council Policies and Procedures and the Advisory Bod y
Handbook . Council Member Andrew Carter resigned his seat effective February 20, 2012 ,
and left certain vacancies .
The City Clerk facilitated the receipt of serving preferences from remaining Counci l
Members and reviewed those requests ; Mayor Marx and Vice Mayor Smith recommend th e
Council Liaison Subcommittee assignments as outlined in the attachment.
These assignments will remain in place until the new Council Member is seated and ne w
Council Liaison Subcommittee Assignments are voted on by the Council .

The following tables shows the Advisory Bodies on which Council Member Carter had bee n
appointed to serve and who is recommended to fill those vacancies .

In the instances where Council Member Carter was serving as the Chair, the Alternat e
Council Member has agreed to take the Chair position.
ALTERNATIVE S
1.Do not make replacement assignments .The City Council could decide not t o
change the current appointments and wait until a new Council Member is elected t o
make changes to committee assignments . This alternative is not recommende d
because it will be helpful to have both a Chair and Member designated during th e
interim period before a new Council Member is seated .
2.Continue consideration of replacement assignments or make differen t
assignments .The Council may decide to make different assignments tha n
proposed, or if more information is needed the Council may continue consideratio n
of this item . Direction should be provided to staff regarding any additiona l
information needed to make a decision on this recommendation .
