MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2001, 7:00 P.M.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, 1341 NIPOMO STREET

CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chair Ron Batterson, Committee Members Wes Conner, Greg
Dillman, Bonnie Marzio, Marion Rodman, and Martha Schwartz
STAFF: Elaina Cano, Rich Ogden, Larry Tolson, and Kim Walker
PUBLIC COMMENT:
There was no public comment.
CONSENT ITEMS:
M/S Committee Members Rappa/Rodman to accept the minutes as amended. Corrections
– Add Wes Conner to attendance. Delete - Item #2: Work Program-Exterior lighting on
walkway by bathrooms. The motion was approved unanimously.
M/S Committee Members Conner/Rappa to accept the February 2001 Financial report.
Committee Member Dillman suggested to add donations under Revenue also to include
any interest in the revenue. The motion passed unanimously.

ITEM #1: ELECTION OF VICE-CHAIR
M/S Committee Members Conner/Rappa to nominate Greg Dillman as the Jack House
Committee Vice-Chair. Dillman accepted the nomination. The motion was passed
unanimously.
ITEM #2: WORK PROGRAM
Chair Batterson reviewed the updated work program. Additional changes were: #1: Off-
Street Parking - add G. Dillman; #4 delete - Re-establish on-site storage in docent office.
#4 Add - Schedule periodic inspections for structural safety and pest control (D. Smith &
R. Batterson). Chair Batterson will bring amended work program to next meeting.
ITEM #3: BUDGET REQUEST AND MARKETING PLAN
Committee Member Rappa and Kim Walker gave an overview of the Budget and
Marketing Plan. M/S Committee Members Dillman/Conner to accept the submitted
Budget and Marketing Request Plan. The motion passed unanimously.
ITEM #4: HISTORIAN UPDATE
Committee Members Schwartz/Rodman gave an overview of all the photos, slides and
miscellaneous information, which will be added to the handbook. Committee Member
Rodman shared the scrapbooks she has been working on with the Committee.
ITEM #5: REPORTS AND UPDATES
A. Monthly Activities - Rich Ogden, Recreation Supervisor, reported that he would be
updating the PowerPoint presentation. Larry Tolson, Parks Maintenance Supervisor,
reported that the fire extinguisher would be installed upstairs. Tolson also reported that
he is still waiting for a response from the awning manufacturers. Tolson reviewed the
Capitol Improvement Project memo.
B. Docent Activities - Committee Member Schwartz discussed having a living museum
for the Mother's Day special event. Schwartz also reported that the orientation meeting
was a success. She also recommended that more Jack House videos be purchased.
C. Member Comments - Committee Member Rappa recommended having the house
cleaned professionally on a regular basis. Chair Batterson directed staff to get estimates
from cleaning companies. Committee Members Batterson and Conner met with the
architect from the bank and were reassured that the foundation of the bank will not
interfere with the roots of the oak tree. The Committee authorized Kim Walker to
continue doing advertising through June.
D. Items to be on next month’s agenda - Carriage House Uses; Re-evaluate Special
Events; Cleaning of the House.
The meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
