PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT, 1341 NIPOMO CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. ROLL CALL: Chair Ron Batterson, Committee members Wes Conner, Greg Dillman, Bonnie Marzio, Martha Schwartz, Marion Rodman and Penny Rappa. STAFF: Elaina Cano, Rich Ogden, and Larry Tolson PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. CONSENT ITEMS: M/S Committee members Rappa/Conner to accept April 18 minutes. The motion was approved unanimously. M/S Committee members Conner/Rodman to accept the May Financial Report. The motion was passed unanimously. ITEM #1: JACK HOUSE GARDEN MASTER PLAN OVERVIEW Larry Tolson, Parks maintenance Supervisor, gave a brief overview of the Garden Master Plan, along with the modifications of the patio and driveway during the last phase. The committee reviewed the existing plans in conjunction with the new bank owned property. ITEM #2: AUGUST ART SHOW/CONCERT Rich Ogden, Recreation Supervisor, Kim Walker, Public Information Officer, and Committee members Greg Dillman and Penny Rappa met with Rosanne Seitz, Arts Gallery Co-pop, and discussed having a co-sponsored art show/concert in August at the gardens. M/S Committee members Rappa/Conner to have a co-sponsored art/concert in the Gardens on August 5, 12:00-5:00 p.m. and to endorse a percentage of the commission of art sales go to the Arts After Dark Program. There will also be a $20 entry fee for artist. The motion passed unanimously. The committee discussed roping off the meters for guest to be dropped off. Ogden presented post cards that will be available at the Mother’s Day concert. ITEM #3: DRESSES LOANED TO JACK HOUSE Committee member Schwartz discussed alternatives as to what to do with the dresses that are on loan to the Jack House for one year. Schwartz will do more research on the era of the dresses. ITEM #4: REPORTS AND UPDATES A. MONTHLY ACTIVITIES Ogden reported that the House will be cleaned on Tue sday and on May 15 all budget recommendations will be going to Council. Ogden also reported that July and August are good months for the Banning Tour. Committee member Dillman reported that the Jack House is now advertised in the Travel Industry Report - SLO Visitor and Conference Bureau. Tolson reported that all the flowers are in full bloom in the Gardens. B. DOCENT ACTIVITIES Committee Schwartz reported that the rooms in the House will be closed off with bollards for the Mother’s Day event. Schwartz also reported that the gift shop is stocked with new merchandise and the docents will be handing out the Jack House Pamphlet at the events. C. MEMBER COMMENTS Committee member Dillman informed the committee that there may be new changes to the trol ley system and that it might be a good idea to request the trolley to drive passed the Jack House. Committee member Rodman informed the committee that she would be taking clippings and photos to Jim’s Campus Cameras to preserve. Dillman suggested having a representative from Creative Memories attend a meeting and give a demonstration about preserving photos. Add Agenda Item to June meeting - Further discussion on rental agreement of Gardens. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
