MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2001
PARKS AND RECREATION ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE, 1341 NIPOMO
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Batterson called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Chair Ron Batterson, Committee Members Wes Conner, Bonnie
Marzio, Penny Rappa and Marion Rodman.
STAFF: Rich Ogden, Larry Tolson, Cindy McDonald and
Kim Walker
PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no Public Comment.
CONSENT ITEMS:
Consideration of the Minutes:
Minutes were accepted.
Consideration of Financial Report:
Supervising Administrative Assistant, Cindy McDonald presented the Financial Report.
The Committee requested a few items regarding the Financial Report and Accounting Systems:
Financial Report not to include monthly print-outs;
Look into interest earned as income and report findings at October meeting;
A current financial report and a look ahead to the next month will be included.
M/S Rappa/Conner accept Financial Report as a work in progress. Motion passed unanimously.
ITEM #1: ART IN THE GARDEN FINAL REPORT
Chair Rappa and Public Information Officer, Kim Walker, gave a final report on “Art in the
Garden.” Through in-depth evaluation of artists, volunteers, Committee Members, staff and
public the overall evaluation was that the event was a success. A written report with comments
and suggestions for next year was included.
M/S Conner/Rappa to write letters of appreciation to community members involved in the event
and present Rosanne Seitz with a Jack House memento of appreciation. The motion included
plans to continue the event next year and look into a possible date change. The motion passed
unanimously.
ITEM #2: ADVERTISING PLAN FOR THIS YEAR
M/S Rappa/Conner to continue discussion to the October meeting after Committee Members and
staff meet with the City’s Promotional Coordinating Committee. The motion passed
unanimously.
ITEM #3: DOCENT APPRECIATION DINNER
The annual Docent Appreciation Dinner was discussed. Recreation Supervisor, Rich Ogden
proposed the following: the dinner will take place on Wednesday, October 10 from 5:30-7:00
p.m. at the City’s Corporation Yard. The monthly Committee Meeting will take place from 4:00-
5:30 p.m. prior to the Dinner at the Corporation Yard. Phoenix Foods will cater the Dinner.
Staff requested $700.00 from the Jack House Fund for the cost of the Docent Appreciation
Dinner.
M/S Batterson/Conner to accept requested budget, date, time and location of the Docent
Appreciation Dinner. The motion passed unanimously.
ITEM #4: REPORTS AND UPDATES
Recreation Supervisor, Rich Ogden reported the following:
The piano re-stringing and tuning will take place October 10 and will cost no more than
$1,000.00;
Elaina Cano will no longer be working on the Jack House Inventory. Different options
were presented to the Committee.
Parks Supervisor, Larry Tolson reported the following:
Bids came in for the postponed Carriage House plans. All three bids were under the
budgeted amount, $50,000.00. Staff will meet with Cultural Heritage Committee to
present plans for the Carriage House;
Tire grenade’s were emptied and ready to go back in the House.
Committee Chair Batterson reported the following:
Committee was asked to consider closing the House for the month of December
following the Open House. The Committee was split with its opinions. Chair Batterson
will discuss wit Committee Member Schwartz and bring back for discussion at October
Committee Meeting;
The Transit Department will consider a possible change in the trolley’s route for Spring
2002 to include the a stop at the Jack House;
Sales Tax was discussed and by consensus, the Jack House will absorb the cost of the
sales tax at this time.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:32 p.m.
Next Jack House Meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at the City’s
Corporation Yard at 25 Prado Road. The meeting time is at 4:00-5:30 p.m.
