MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, March 9, 2005 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5.33 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Bill Pyper, Marion Rodman, Gerry
Johnson and John Tishler. City Council Member, Christine Mulholland.
STAFF: Kim Walker, Rich Ogden and Larry Tolson.
GUESTS: Richard Dresp and Jackie Kane.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of February 2005 meeting were approved.
The Financial Report for February 2005 were presented and accepted.
ITEM #1: Mother’s Day
Kim Walker reported the promotional plan for Mother’s Day 2005 will be similar to
promotions in the past.
2005 Mother’s Day event has a budget of $1000.
ITEM #2: Jack House Brochure
Brochure committee met and decided on the brochure copy. Inserts will be used to list
dates and events that change each year.
Walker distributed a list if proposed photos to be used in the brochure.
A draft of the brochure will be available for one week to all committee members to
review on April 18, 2005 in the Parks and Recreation Administrative office.
ITEM #3: Media Day
Dresp proposed an open house event for all media organizations. It will be facilitated by
docents. Estimated cost for invitations and refreshments is less than $500.
A motion was made to accept the plan to have a Media Event & Familiarization
tour. The motion was passed unanimously.
A motion was made authorizing Richard Dresp to spend up to $500 on supplies
for the Media Event & Familiarization tour. The motion was passed

Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
o Ogden met with Service Master Cleaning Company about cleaning for the Jack House.
o Walker will send out a call to artists on March 15, 2005 for Art in the Garden.
o Walker reported the commission plan for Art in the Garden will stay the same as 2004.
There will be a $25 Application fee and 30% commission on all art sold. 10% of the

commission will go to the Jack House Funds and 20% will be donated to Art After Dark.
o Walker asked for volunteers to be on the Art Selection Jury. Bill Pyper & Christine
Mulholland volunteered.
o Tolson reported the large tree stump was removed from the Jack House Garden.
o Tolson reported 14 new fence stakes were replaced on the front fence.
o Tolson reported the budget for a new fence may have to wait until the 2007/08 budget.
o Tolson reported the Jack House fire sprinkler installation may be delayed in order to
incorporate the Gift Shop fire sprinkler installation at the same time.
Docent Activities
Richard Dresp reported on the following items:
o The Jack House silver pieces are in poor condition and would like to have the pieces
professionally restored in September. A cost estimate was provided by Borah’s Awards.
o A Docent recruitment day is scheduled for April 9, 2005 from 2-4 pm.
o The Docents selected a bird bath for the Martha Schwartz memorial. They would like to
purchase a 3x6 or 3x4 memorial plaque to place along side the bird bath.
o Richard will give a monthly update of all Docent volunteer hours.
o Docents volunteered 160 hours in December 2004.
Member Comments
o Tishler reported Jeff Hook of the City Planning Department said removing the elevator
shaft from the Jack House was a “good news” project.
o Johnson would like service clubs to be included in the Media Event & Familiarization
tour. This could be planned at least a year in advance.
o Conner reported the tree trunk that was removed had about 75 rings. Estimating the
tree was planted around 1930. The stump cutting will not be preserved.
o Batterson took an inventory of all the electrical outlets in the Jack House. A list/map of
working, non-working and likely additions of outlets was provided to the committee.
The list was given to Larry Tolson to have this issue examined by an electrician. A cost
estimate was requested for changes, upgrades and possible additions to the Jack House
electrical system. It was requested that each room have at least two working double
outlets.
Communications
No communications were presented.
Meeting adjourned at 7:13 p.m. to the April 13, 2005 meeting at 5:30 pm at the Parks and
Recreation Department.
