HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-19-05 JHC MinutesG:\Everyone\Jack House\JH Committee\Minutes\2005\4.19.05.DOC Jack House Committee MINUTES Special Meeting Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Wednesday, April 19, 2005 5:30 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5.30 p.m. ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Bill Pyper, Gerry Johnson, John Tishler and Richard Dresp STAFF: Rich Ogden and Larry Tolson GUESTS: Betty Stockton PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: There was no public comment. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT: The minutes of February 2005 meeting were approved. The Financial Report for February 2005 were presented and accepted. ITEM #1: Election  Ron Batterson was elected to Chair of the Jack House Committee.  Wes Conner was elected to Vice Chair of the Jack House Committee. ITEM #2: Window Shades in House  Becker’s Draperies, Inc. will take down all window coverings and deliver to Paul’s Dry Cleaning Service for cleaning.  Becker’s Draperies will replace all pull-down shades with new vinyl shades with pulleys.  The estimated cost of removal of shades and draperies and the replacement of shades was $4,999.00 from Becker’s Draperies. The dry cleaning cost from Paul’s will be a separate bill.  A motion was made to accept Becker’s estimate for shade replacement, the removal of the draperies and the delivery of draperies to Paul’s Dry Cleaning. The motion was passed unanimously.  A motion was made for a maximum limit of $1,200.00 for the dry cleaning cost of the draperies. The motion was passed unanimously. ITEM #3: Cleaning of House  Service Masters gave an estimate of $995.00 for complete cleaning of the Jack House.  A motion was made to accept the estimate for the Service Masters cleaning services. The motion was passed unanimously. Reports and Updates  Monthly Activities o Ogden reported that Ken Schwartz donated $100.00 for a Marion Rodman memorial. The offer is good anytime of the year at $890 + tax. o Tolson reported the Parks crew are planning their annual basic gardening that will include the Jack House Gardens. They will also be pressure washing the outside service buildings. This will not cause any problems with excess run off of water/drainage. o A group from the Light House may be interested in the 1940’s gas stove for sale in the gift shop.  Docent Activities Richard Dresp reported on the following items: o Ken Schwartz has confirmed that he does want to permanently donate the place settings currently on display in the Jack House. A table tent stating the donor family’s name will be displayed on the table. o The grey/blue carpet will be replaced by Home Depot for a cost of $473.00. o The Docents would like to have Victorian music playing in the background during tours. A CD player was purchased for $23.00 to play the Victorian music. It will be hidden behind furniture to keep the CD player out of sight. o Dresp requested a small petty cash fund be established for the Docents. The request was denied by the Jack House Committee, in accordance with City policy. o A request was made for paid Mother’s Day promotional ads in The Tribune and New Times. o June 24th may not work for the Martha Schwartz Memorial dedication day. The Docents would like to dedicate the bird bath at the same time the bench is being dedicated. The dedication day may be rescheduled. o A request was made to have a piano player available for Mother’s Day. o An information flyer will be handed out at all Jack House events to recruit for new Docents.  Member Comments o Batterson suggested recruiting material be handed out at senior residential living facilities. o Batterson reported that the “Trout About Town” will start April 21, 2005 and one will be on display at the Jack House Gardens. o Tishler reported that the landscaping element has been completed and the next step will be to get construction documents approved and things will move forward after the summer season.  Communications o Betty Stockton presented information on the written “Rain” policy for the Jack House. She requested follow up and clear direction on a rain policy from the Jack House Committee. Meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m. to the May 11, 2005 meeting at 5:30 pm at the Parks and Recreation Department.
