MINUTES
Jack House
Wednesday, August 17, 2005 5:30 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5.34 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members John Tischler, Gerry Johnson, Bill
Pyper, Richard Dresp and Patrick Mayeda.
STAFF: Rich Ogden and Larry Tolson.
GUESTS: Shirley Howell.
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of June 2005 meeting were approved.
The Financial Report for June/July 2005 were presented and accepted.
ITEM #1: Jack House Brochure
Graphic Designer, Shirley Howell, presented a sample brochure to the Committee.
Brochure will be available for 2 weeks for revive in the Parks & Recreation office.
All suggestions will need to be submitted to Kim Walker by September 14, 2005.
An order of 10,000 brochures and 2,000 insert cards was recommended.
ITEM #2: Expensed for the Year
This agenda item was tabled until the September meeting.
ITEM #3: Ideas and Wish List for the Gift Catalog
This item will be placed on future agendas for discussion.
Each committee member was asked to make a list of donation ideas to be included in the
Gift Catalog. The proposed items will be discussed at future meetings.
Reports and Updates
Monthly Activities
o Rich Ogden presented the current Jack House Advisory Committee roster for review. He
will make the necessary corrections and additions.
o Tolson reported wall seat was presented to the Building Department and it does not
require a permit for approval.
o Tolson reported the sprinkler system project for the Gift Shop and Service Building was
approved by the City Council.
o Tolson presented an update on the electrical plan for the Jack House. It is estimated that
the job will cost between $3,000 – $6,000 to complete and there will not be a need to
collect bids on the project.
o Tolson will check if weather stripping has been replaced in the Jack House yet.

Docent Activities
Richard Dresp reported on the following items:
o The Docents rated the Victorian Games Day a 7 out of 10. Docents have feedback on
event if it were to be held again next year.
o All Docents will arrive at 11:45 am for Art in the Garden. The house will be open from
Noon to 5:00 p.m. for tours.
Member Comments
o Tishler did not hear back from Ralph Martini on the masonry work for wall bench.
Larry Tolson will look into other bid options.
o Johnson talked to Peggy Manderfield about the SLO Trolley. The diver of the Trolley
will mention the location and hours of the Jack House when it passes the corner of
Marsh and Nipomo.
o Johnson requested the use of the Ken Schwartz Jack House painting to use on post
cards sold in the Jack House gift shop if appropriate in the future.
o Conner would like to pursue placing pictures on the outside of window shades in the
Jack House.
o Conner reported that Ken Hampian would like the support of all committee members
to increase the sales tax.
o Batterson announced that Richard Dresp has resigned from the Jack House Committee
and as a Docent effective September 4, 2005. Richard will be moving out of California.
o Batterson reported the Jack House Committee will need to recruit a new member from
the Historical Society.
Communications
o No communications were presented.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m. to the September 14, 2005 meeting at 5:30 pm at the Parks
and Recreation Department.
