HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-12-05 JHC MinutesG:\Everyone\Jack House\JH Committee\Minutes\2005\10.12.05.DOC Jack House Committee MINUTES Parks and Recreation Administrative Office Wednesday, October 12, 2005 5:30 PM CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 5:34 p.m. ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Wes Conner, Committee Members Bill Pyper, John Tischler, Gerry Johnson and Patrick Mayeda. GUESTS: Ken Hampian, Bill Statler, Stan McGuire and Betty Stockton. STAFF: Rich Ogden and Larry Tolson. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD: There was no public comment. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT: The minutes of September 2005 meeting were approved with following correction:  Item 3 ~ the fence cost is estimated to be $20,000, not $2,000.  Staff Report ~ Sesqui was misspelled. The Financial Report for September 2005 was presented and accepted. ITEM #1: Update on Possible Revenue Ballot Measure – Bill Statler  Bill Statler gave a presentation on a possible revenue ballot measure in November 2006. o Mr. Statler passed out a questionnaire and answered questions from Committee Members. ITEM #2: Cleaning Issue  Rich Ogden called two cleaning service companies to obtain cost quotes for quarterly cleanings. Service Master had the lowest price quote with the best service options. o A motion was made to hire Service Master Cleaning Services for quarterly cleaning of the Jack House. The motion passed unanimously. ITEM #3: Art in the Garden Update  Information on this item was not available. Reports and Updates  Monthly Activities o Rich Ogden will post a “No Vehicle Access” sign on the sliding gate. o Ogden passed around final proof of new Jack House & Gardens brochure for review and last minute corrections were made. Ogden will now send out for printing bids. o Ogden brought more of the old brochures to the SLO Chamber of Commerce office. Jack House Committee Minutes for October 12, 2005 Page 2 of 2 G:\Everyone\Jack House\JH Committee\Minutes\2005\10.12.05.DOC o Larry Tolson placed a work order for the door knob to be fixed within 48 hours. o Tolson is working on securing two bids for the electrical work. The company they choose must use prevailing wage. One of the bids was from Select Electric. They do not use prevailing wage. The second company was Electicraft. Their bid was approximately $5,500. Tolson will meet with Toma Electric soon. o Tolson met with a contractor for a bid on the wall bench. The bid was $12,000. Tolson now has to solicit additional bids.  Docent Activities McGuire reported the following: -Written report by Jackie Kaine was distributed to all committee members. -Docents would like the Poinsettias delivered on December 8, at 10.00 am. -There is need for additional Docents. The time commitment is 3-4 hours a month and a few extra hours during the Holiday months.  Member Comments Committee Member Johnson reported that a meeting for Sesqui was scheduled for October 25, 2005. Conner asked when the committee could expect an appointment from the council for a new person/representative from the Historical Society. Pyper attended a Sesqui meeting and a committee will be working to move forward with the celebration preparations. Tishler completed the feedback on the Garden/Plant identification portion of the new brochure. Batterson will attend the October 2005 Docent meeting. Batterson will not be able to attend the November 2005 Jack House Committee Meeting. Batterson stated that the Docents and Jack House Committee Members should arrange for joint out of town day tours with the Cal Poly Women’s Club when appropriate.  Communications No communications were presented. Meeting adjourned at 7:09 p.m. to the November 9, 2005 meeting at 4:00 pm at the Ludwick Community Center. A Docent appreciation dinner will follow.
