MINUTES
Parks and Recreation Administrative Office
Wednesday, November 8,2006 4:00 PM
CALL TO ORDER: Chair Ron Batterson called the meeting to order at 4:18 p.m.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chair Gerry Johnson, Committee Members Bill Pyper, Wes Conner, Patrick
Mayeda and John Tischler
GUESTS: Jackie Kane
STAFF: Rich Oeden and Larry Tolson
PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:
There was no public comment.
CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES AND FINANCIAL REPORT:
The minutes of October 2006 meeting were approved.
The Financial Report for October 2006 was approved.
ITEM #1: Christmas 2006 Planning
o Christmas lights will be put up on December 'lrn at 10:00 am. Mayeda, Batterson,
Conner & Johnson all volunteered to be present to help.
o Lights, zip ties and tape will be needed on December 7tn.
o More artificial candles were requested to be used for the Christmas decorations.
. Any cut foliage used as decoration in the Jack House must be treated with fire retardant
spfay.
o Pink and white poinsettias will be available again this year for the Jack House
decorations.
o The Jack House artificial tree will be used this year.
t A motion was made to use an artificial tree for the Christmas decorations. The
motion was passed 4 to L. Conner opposed.
ITEM #2: City Hostesses
. Ogden spoke with City Hostess about including Jack House brochure in the welcome
packets. The cost is approximately .50 per brochure insert. Approximately 80 brochure
packets go out each month.
o City Hostess will provide a written estimate for City packets outside of San Luis
Obispo.
o Parks & Recreation staff will find out if the City of San Luis Obispo already pays to
place other city related brochures in the welcome packets.
Reports and Updates
o Monthly Activities - Staff/Public Works
o Tolson reported Frank Hernandez, Grounds Maintenance, will be on leave for about 2
months.
o Tolson reported that the bolts on the Carriage doors were tightened.
o Tolson reported that the Jack House sprinkler project is currently being reviewed by

Public Works Engineer, Mike Mcquire.
o Tolson reported on a work order submitted to get the crack in the fountain repaired.
o Ogden has new Docent Handbooks available.
o Ogden introduced Christine Wallace as the new Parks and Recreation staff liaison to the
Jack House Committee. Christine Wallace, (805) 781-7303 or cwallace@slocity.org.
o Docent Activities
Jackie Kane reported on the following items:
o Docents will be working to get the Jack House ready for the Holiday Open House hours
in December.
o Docents will continue to meet and do work in the house while it is closed January
through March 2007.
o A request was made to update the information listed on the Jack House web site and to
place new signs outside the house with the winter hours.
o Member Comments
o Conner would like to discuss a no smoking policy for the Jack House gardens.
o Johnson made an announcement to the Monday Club about recruiting new Jack House
Docents.
o Tischler will be movins out of the area soon.
o Communications
No communications were presented.
