The committee will join the Parks and Recreation Department on a Park Tour on June 27 instead
of holding a regularly scheduled committee meeting.
3. Staff Reports and Updates: Parks and Recreation/Public Works
Burger reported on the following:
Easter Egg Hunt was a success with lots of positive feedback and 300-400 in attendance at the
Jack House Gardens. A great article came out in the Tribune as well.
Mother’s Day promotional business cards have been distributed to the Jack House, businesses in
town and flower shops.
Central Coast Bride magazine ad will be placed again in 2012, repeating the same ad from last
year. $300 from the facilities account will help pay for the ad which will appear in the September
publication.
Two school tours are scheduled for May. A conversation began about how to promote the Jack
House to local schools and how more outreach can be done to tie the Jack House to the
“community” aspect of the elementary curriculum.
4. Docent Activities
Kincaid reported on the following:
The docents are ready for Mother’s Day. Story boards were purchased from Poor Richard’s Press
within the approved budget. A 20x30 board was made for the front of the house and 11x17 size
boards were made for the interior. A total of 75-100 purses are being displayed in the house with
each room exhibiting a different decade. No antique cars will be available this year for the event.
Nancy Blell passed away recently and was a long time docent. Nora O’Donnell will be reducing
the number of hours she will be available this year, but she will be remain on the schedule for the
special event tours. Four new docents are starting and they are wonderful.
5. Member Comments/Communications
Batterson – Pat Kimball (gazebo contractor) had questions regarding paint for touchups on
gazebo.
Jim Stockton Crepe Myrtle tree in the Jack House Garden has been removed possibly?
Committee investigating and Batterson will invite Larry Tolson from Public Works staff to the
July meeting to discuss replacement.
Stockton – Visited the Jack House on May 6 during Taste of SLO and was concerned that there
was no notification that the house was closed that Sunday.

Gordon – Foundation held its first meeting May 9 and hopes to provide new source for docents,
events and fundraising.
Mayeda – Curious where we were with the County Band event coordination between Burger and
Reinhardt. The gazebo needs to be touched up with bondo and a new coat of paint now that the
structure is reinforced and it will remain in the garden for some time. The Mother’s Day banner
font is hard to read from the street. Taste of SLO banner in comparison was clean, simple and
nice to read. Jill LeMieux is working on bringing a fundraiser event to the Jack House for the
Jack House. The Jack House lawn looks great.
Settle – Settle attended the Foundation meeting and is excited to move the group forward and
putting the Friends group together. These support groups have been vital to the survival of other
historic homes. They can improve educational components and increase docent recruitment.
Smith – Thank you for serving on the committee.
Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m. Next meeting is June 27, 2012 at 1 pm at the Ludwick
Community Center, 864 Santa Rosa Street for Special Meeting and Park Tour.
