ROLL CALL: Committee Members: Ron Batterson, Kathi Settle, Patrick Mayeda, Gerry Johnson, Bob Gordon, Betty Stockton and Susan Updegrove ABSENT: Ron Battereson, Kathi Settle and Bob Gordon STAFF: Meghan Burger GUESTS: Toni Kincaid MOTION: (Mayeda/Updegrove) Move to elect Pat Mayeda as acting Chairperson for the remainder of the meeting in the absence of both Chair and Vice Chair. Approved: 4 yes: 0 no: 3 absent (Batterson, Settle, and Gordon) PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD There were no public comments. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES MOTION: (Mayeda/Updegrove) Approve the July 11, 2012 and May 9, 2012 minutes as submitted. Approved: 4 yes: 0 no: 3 absent (Batterson, Settle, and Gordon) CONSIDERATION OF FINANCIAL REPORT MOTION: (Mayeda/Johsnon) Approve the July 31, 2012 Financial Report as submitted. Approved: 4 yes: 0 no: 3 absent (Batterson, Settle, and Gordon) REGULAR ITEMS 1. Approve Research for New Logo Design - Burger Parks and Recreation staff would like to purchase champagne flutes with the Jack House logo as an additional “perk” for couples that marry at the Gardens, as well as a promotional piece; however, the logo did not reproduce well. Burger is seeking permission to pursue the creation of a new logo. The Committee is in favor of seeing new logo options and would like the new logo to: remain in an oval shape and highlight the house (as a simple line drawing). Proposed artists to consider are: Ken Schwartz, Chuck Krotser and Parks and Recreation Staff. They request an update at the next meeting. Jack House Committee Minutes July 11, 2012 Page 2 of 2 2. Approve funding for Haunted Jack House and Victorian Christmas Décor - Kinkaid Toni Kinkaid requested up to $500 each out of the Jack House fund for the purchase of decorations for Haunted Halloween and Victorian Christmas. Last year $350 was spent for Halloween and $500 for Christmas. MOTION: (Johnson/Mayeda) Approve up to $500 each out of the Jack House fund for the purchase of decorations for Haunted Halloween and Victorian Christmas. Approved: 4 yes: 0 no: 3 absent (Batterson, Settle, and Gordon) 3. Staff Reports and Updates: Parks and Recreation/Public Works Burger reported on the following: *As requested at the last meeting by Gordon, research into the rental prices for the Jack House gardens are determined by Parks and Recreation Administration and Facility Staff and are Council approved. Mayeda is curious what other facilities charge and asked Burger to bring some comparable prices to the next meeting. *Several upcoming special tours at the House; Burger working to find docents to lead the tours. *Burger is working with Building Maintenance to fix the light outside the back of the kitchen. It should be fixed to come on when it gets dark and automatically go off in the daytime. *Attendance numbers for tours at the house in 2011-12: 1072 (including 605 for Haunted Halloween and Victorian Christmas); 2010-11 totals were 986 (including 500 for Haunted Halloween and Victorian Christmas). 7. Docent Activities Kincaid reported on the following: *Docent Judy Caswell will not be available to volunteer right now due to health issues. *Docent Chris White-Sanborn wrote an article for the New Times college scene on getting involved at the Jack House. 8. Member Comments/Communications Pat Mayeda – Concerned about pricing structure for rentals at the Jack House. Would like the Committee to consider looking at tiered pricing as well as putting some recommendations together for City Council. Will be out of the country through February. Gerry Johnson – Inquired about bookings for weddings and events this summer. Betty Stockton – none Susan Updegrove – Would like to see some events and outreach to College age individuals, including Art History, Architecture, Interior Design and any other programs. Meeting adjourned at 6:11 p.m. Next meeting is September 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the San Luis Obispo Parks and Recreation Administration Office.
