ROLL CALL:•Present,..Commissioner Dick Sanders, H. A. Gowman, L. F. Sinsheimer and Geo: H. Andrews. Absent: Mayor Stover. The minutes of April 2nd, April 3rd,! -April 3rd and April 9th read, and approved as corrected. A communication from the Treasury Department at Washington, D: C. was read, asking permission to connect area drains and sub -soil drains for the new- Federal Aft&4�- building with the city -sewer system. On motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by /jay, Dick Sanders the matter was referred to Commissioner.L. F. Sinsheimer with power y to act. Application received from A. S. Pavia for.permit to construct a corrugated Iron Garage on Lot 5 Block 42. seconded by L. F. Sinsheimer. The same was granted on motion of H. A. Gowman A petition was received from V. Luisi and P. Pedrizetti for permit to place an electric sigh in front of the Royal Care at 1013 Chorro St. On motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by Dick Sanders the same was granted. Application received from the Santa Maria Gas and Power Co. for permit to open street for the purpose of running gas. service on Mill Ste at the south east corner of Chorro St. On motion of L. F. Sinsheimer seconded by Dick Sanders the application was granted. The application of Frank Hampton for a Restaurant license which has been referred from previous meetings for investigation was ordered granted on motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by Dick Sanders. The application of C. K. Inao, Jap„ for permission to conduct a lodging house at 868 Palm Ste said.application having been referred from previous meeting was again taken up. It developed that I: Tarioka held a license for a lodging house at the above mentioned location. On motion of H. L. Gowman seconded by Dick Sanders the matter was referred to the next meeting and in the mean time Mr. Inao to make ap- plication for a transfer of the license of I. Tarioka to himself. The President of the roman's Civic Club, through Mr. Sinsheimer, requested that the Council furnish said Club with a lawn mower to be used at E1 Triangulo Park, and also that the salary of the care taker be increased from X7.00 to 410,00 per month. No action taken. Commissioner Andrews brought up the matter in re the high speed of automobiles qon upper Monterey St. The matter was referred to Commissioner Gowman with power to act. qtr•.-- The matter in re the parking of automobiles in front of the Modern Vulcanizing �r '\Co.'s place of business in Osos Ste was brought to the attention of.the Council. The matter to be taken up by the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and Chieff of Police. It was moved by Dick Sanders and seconded by H. A. Gowman that the salary of the Street Sweepers be raised from 70.00 to $75.00 per month said raise to take effect this month. It was moved by L. F. Sinsheimer end seconded by Dick Sanders that the City Engineer furnish the Council with plans end specifications for the extension of
