Council met in regular . session with Ifayor Stover presiding.

The minutes of July 2nd and July 9th were read and approved as read.
Communication received from W. H. Curran, Trainmaster of the Southern
e` Pacific Company, in regard to.ice cream vendors establishing a stand on the

Osos Street crossing to peddle ice cream to.paosengers arriving on the after-
noon trains and asking that the Council tsl:e some action toward eliminating the
nuisance.
The :.natter was referred to the City Attorney and Chief of Police. --
The following building permits were received:
H. J. Griffith, Lot 11 Block 172, Screen Porch, Cost tir50.00
Susan J. Stockton,
Susan J. Stockton,
Block 10, Repairs to house, Cost '300.00
Block 10, Pergola
Cost. -. 20.00
On motion. of H. A. Gowman.seconded by n. B. Kirtland, the permits were
granted with the exception of that of Susan ,i. Stockton for a Pergola, which
was laid over for investigation, same to be taken up at a later date.
Application received from I;Irs. R. Clapp for permission to conduct a Lodging
house at 985 Chorro St. On motion of H: B. Kirtland seconded by John Chapek
the matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for
investigation.
Petition for transfer of the Lodging House license of Phil George to I;Srs.
L. Hedden received. On motion of H. B. Kirtland seconded by John Chapek the
same was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety.
Applications received from the Santa I:Iaria Gas & bower Co. for permit to
open ditch part way across street at the following named locations:
On Broad St. between Christian and Francis St.
On I:iontcrey St. Between Broad and Nipomo St. and
On Islay St. at the corner of Garden St.
On motion of L. F. Sinsheimer seconded by H. B. Kirtlm d, the applications
were granted.
The application of J. W. Hitchell for a Restaurant license which was re-
ferred at the last meeting for investigation, was granted upon motion of H. A.
Gowman seconded by H. B. Kirtland.
The application of J. W. Chandler for Taxicab license, the same having been
referred for investigation, was granted upon motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by
H. B. Kirtland.
The petition of P. Pedrizetti and V. Luisi for transfer of their restaurant
business to P. Pedrizetti and John Pedrizetti, the same . having been held over from
the last meeting for investigation, was granted on motion of H. A. Goer =man second-
ed by L. F. Sinsheimer.

The matter.in regard to the old claims of A. Carlisle & Co. was again brought
uyo, City Clerk directed to communicate with said company to ascertain the date
of the filing of said claims.
The matter in re cleansing. San huis , Obispo Creek was discussed. The Com-
missioner of Public Hea; th and Safety had no recommendations to make. in regard to
the matter.
The City Attorney submitted a draft d'f a notice for advertisement for bids
for a new and modern lighting system for the,City of San Luis Obispo, with .either
gas or electricity. Said sealed proposals or bids to be riled with the City
Clerk on or before Lionday, July 30th, 1917 at the hour of :7 :30 P. iI.
It was moved by H. A. Gowman and seconded by H. B. :irtland that the said
notice calling for bids be passed to print, The motion carried.
The matter relative t.o the disposal of garbage was again discussed. The
City Attorney was directed to get data from oti_er cities on the subject and draft
an Ordinance covering the same.
the Iiayor brought up the matter in regard to certtLin merchants in the City
handling fire crackers. On motion of L. F. Sinshei:ner seconded by John Chapek,
the matter was referred to the Co!nmissioner of Public Iiealth and Safety.
The "latter relative to the claim of E. A. Branch in the eum of ?125.00 fa,
27 da;,s labor during the month of June was brought up. It was moved by H. A.
Gowman and seconded by I". B. Kirtland that the original bill of w1r. Branch be
rejected.
