Council met in special called session with Mayor Stover presiding. ROLL CALL:
Present: H. A. Goxvman, John Chapek, W. Me Stover ..
Absent: H. Be Kirtland, L. F. Sinsheimer.
The purpose of the meeting was to receive . the applications for the regular
quarterly licenses that. same might be referred for the required number of.days for
investigation before final passage.
It was moved by John Chapek and seconded by H. A. Gowman that the applications
be referred to the Commissioner.of Public Health and Safety for investigation. The
motion carried,
on motion of H..A. Gowman seconded by John Chapek the meeting adjourned.

Communication read from J. J. Borree suggesting that measures be considered
looking to the closing.of saloons for three hours preceeding the entrainment of soldiers
on mobiliaztion days. The same ordered filed.
The following bgtilding permits were granted upon motion of John Chapek seconded
by H. Be Kirtland.

The above requests were granted upon motion of John Chapek seconded by
H. Be Kirtland.
Applications received from the Midland Co. Public Service Corppration
for permit to open trench on Sandercock St. between Broad and Story St. and
on Osos St. between George and Swazey St.
On motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by H. Be Kirtland the same were
granted.
Application received from the Santa Maria Gas & Power Co. for permit
to open ditch on Pismo St. between Morro and Chorro. On motion of H. Be
Kirtland seconded by H. A. Gowman the same was ordered granted.
The report of.the City Clerk for the month of Aug. was received and
ordered filed on motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by H. Be Kirtland.
The application of Cornelius Van Proyen for a Restaurant license,
the same having been laid over for the usual investigation, was granted
upon motion of H. A. Gowman seconded by H. Be Kirtland.
The application of Cornelius Van Proyen and Antonio Petrini for taxi-
cab license, which had been referred for investigation, were granted on
the recommendation of H. A. Gowman seconded by H. Be Kirtland.
The applications for the regular quarterly licenses which had been
presented and referred for investigation'were ordered granted upon motion
of H. A. Gowman seconded by John Chapek.
' The matter of replacing the typewriters in the offices of City Clerk
and City Collector with new ones was brought up by Commissioner of Supplies.
It was moved by John Chapek and. seconded by H. Be Kirtland that the type-
writers remain as they are.
It was moved by John Chapek and seconded by H. A. Gowman that the
rental for Lire Cheney °s barn be increased from ;15.00 to $20.00 per month
beginning Oct. 1st.
( The matter of the lighting system. -for the City of San Luis Obispo was
l again brought up and the matter discussed at length. It was moved by
H. Be Kirtland and seconded by H. A. Gowman that the Council advertise for
bids for 250 Gas Standards of 300 candle power, on the terms agreed upon.
Bids to be submitted on Oct. 8th at 7 :30 P, Me and Council reserving the
right to reject same. Said bids to be segregated in such a manner as to
show cost of .installation, - _cost.. of maintenance.. and cost . -of gas. ..ROLL CALL
