For Commissioner of Public Works, Geo. W. Kilbern was nominated by H.A. Gowman ,
seconded by W.B. Martin. The motion carried and Geo. W. Kilbern was declared elected
Commissioner of Public Works .
It was moved by H.A. Gowman seconded by Geo. -W. Kilbern and carried.-that
an extra man be employed temporarily as an assistant to the Pound Master.
On motion of Janes Piper seconded by H.A. Gowman the meeting adjourned to
Monday, May 23d at 7:3A P.M.

City Council met in adjourned session -Mayor L.F. Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : W.B. ^•"actin , H.A. Gowman , Geo. W. Kilbern , James Piper , L.F. Sinsheimer.
Absent : None.
On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the following applications
for permit to build were granted
H.A. Traver - Residence Block Hathaway Addn Cost $ 1,500.G0
D.S. Riley -- Garage Block 43 Cost 300.00
Laura Moreno - Residence Lot 7 -9 Block 8 Central Addn Cost 20000.00
The application of P.W. Stearns for license for lunch counter at 1027 Chorro St.
referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report.
The application of D.J. Riley for permit to lay 75 ft. of 5 ft. park sidewalk on
the east side of Essex Street between Peach and Mill Streets , Lot 2 Block 43 - granted on
motion of James Piper seconded by W.B. Martin.
The following applications for sewer connections were granted on motion of
H.A. Gowman seconded by Geo. 77. Kilbern:
John G. Fleishman -- Santa Rosa Street between Islay and Leff Street.
Mrs. Anna B. Folmer -- Islay Street between High and Carmel Street.
The application of the Midland Co. Pub. Service Corp'n for permit to set 3- 4-Oft
poles , install 3 anchors and complete and extend secondary lines was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report on motion of H.A. Gowman seconded
by James Piper.
On motion of W.B. Martin seconded by James Piper the Official Bond of
L.F. Sinsheimer ; Mayor, was accepthd by the Council.

.Relative to the application of the..Midland Co. Pub. Serv. Corporation for
permit to place poles and anchors on Pacific Street at corner of Essex Street, which was
referred to the Commissioner of Public Works was again taken up. Fir. H.L. Kemper
protested against:said poles and anchors being placed at points indicated On motion
of W.B. Martin seconded by Geo. W. Kilbern the matter was laid over until such time as the
said corporation come to some agreement with Mr. Kemper.
Mr, E.D. Suorthout appeared in behalf of the Merchants Association and requested
the Council to contribute funds toward the purchase of " Welcome Banners " to be iblaced at
the entrances tc the City during convention week of Druids - in June. After discussion
legally
the matter was referred to the City Attorney for opinion as to whether the Council couldncon-
tribute funds for such purpose.
Relative to the matter of Sewer Connebtion on Monterey S treet , on motion of
J.B. Tiartin seconded by James Piper the same was referred to the .Commissioner of Public
Wo ,rks for investigation and report.
The retitio.n of property owners for paving sides of Highway on Broad street
was again laid over to the next meeting..
Relative to Sewer connections on Broad Street prior to paving.,it was moved by

H.A. Gowman :;.:;seconded by James Piper and Carried that the City Clerk communicate with
all ownerst,of,:property fronting on Broad Street from Higuera Street to the City limits ,
requesting them to connect their respective lots with the City :Sewer within ten days.
The application of W.B. Roselip for appointment as City Engineer was received
and on motion of Geo. N. Kilbern seconded by W.B. Martin was ordered filed.
Relative to Sevier connections on Santa Rosa and Sycamore Streets and
Hathaway Avenue , it was moved by James Piper and seconded by : -.H.A. Gowman that the
Commissioner of Public Works be instructed to take up the matter with property owners
on said streets and request them to connect their respective properties with the City
Sewer prior to the paving of said streets. Motion carried and so ordered9
There was discussion relative to deepening the City Well at Pismo and Garden St.
It was suggested that the Commissioner of Public Works get the Log of the Anderson Well on
near by property , and report to the Council at the next meeting.
On motion of H.A. Gowman seconded by James Piper the meeting adjourned to
Tuedday, May 31st at 7:30 P.M.
