On motion of Geo.W,Kilbern seconded by Chas Forbes the following applicatie
for permit to build were grunted:

for permit to connect with the City Sewer were granted :

Application of Adele I•_ucera for permit to hang an Electric.Sign at 885
Higuera Street w.-s granted on motion of C.1i ?.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forbes.
The petition of Burriss and Stephenson for permit to,install a Gasolihe
Pump at service Station at corner High and Higuera Street , granted on motion of
Geo.W.Kilbern seconded by Chas Forbes.
On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by Geo.VI.Hilbern the applications of
Rodgers Grocery ( 17m.F.Rodgers ) for license for Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 1034
I:iorro Street were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health,and Safety for report.
The application of Her: °era Bros for license for Boxing Exhibition at 874 1/2
Higuera Street for lVednesday , April 9th at 8 o'clock P.I,4., was referred to the Commissione
of Pubile Health and Safety for report on motion of Chas Forbes seconded by Geo.117.I:ilbern.
On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by Geo.1- 7.Kilbern application of
Armand P.Irlotto Ros for license for Taxicab was referred to Commissioner of Public Health
and Safety for report.
Application of Thos J. Quintana for position as I:lotor Cop was received
and ordered placed on file with other similar applications , on motion of C.11. Carpenter
seconded by Geo.17.Kilbern.
The applications for the regular quarterly licenses were granted on-motion
of C.M.Carpenter seconded by Geo.47.I:ilbern , with the exception of the applications of
James Scettrini and Ed Martin for licenses for Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 1019 -23
Court Street and 891 I:Ionterey Street respectively.
It was moved by C,M.Carpenter and seconded by Chas Forbes that the applicat-
ions of Ed. Martin for license for Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline, also of James Scettrini
for license for S6ft Drinks and Cigars Sideline be denied. Attorney Albert Nelson
appeared for the petitioners, and the matter was discussed at length I:Iotion withdrawn
and further discussion followed.
It was then moved by C.I.1.0arpenter and seconded by Chas Forbes that the
application of James Scettrini for license for Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 1019 -23
Court Street be denied. Discussion. IIotion put and carried, Commissioner
O.I:I.Carpenter requested a roll call vote which resulted as follows :

It was then moved by C.I.I.Carpenter and seconded by Chas Forbes that the
applications of ,Ed I:Iartin- -for licenses for Soft Brinks and Cigars Sideline at 891 Ieior_terey
Street be denied. Discussion. Lotion carried. Commissioner C.Ivi.Carpenter
requested a roll call vote which resulted as follows :

Ordinance No. 99 ( New Series ) ' An Ordinance establishing Grades on Leff
Street between_ Osos and Santa _Rosa Street was introduced and passed to }girt on motion
of Chas Forbes seconded by 1,7.B.I:iartin by the following vote :
Ayes 1l.B.Ivlartin, C,I,I.Carpenter , Geo.W.Kilbern , Chas Forbes , L.F.Sinsheimer.

Petition of - �.IVI.Bernard for permit to hang a Board sign ( 18" x 6 ft ) at
1239 Elonterey Street was granted on motion of C.1,T.Carpenter seconded by W.B.11.1artin with the
provision that the same be removed at the pleasure-of the Council. •
Application of Harry Griffith for permit to lay 225 ft of 5 ft park side-
walk and curbing on the north side of Leff Street between Osos and Santa Rosa Street was
granted on motion of 1I.B.11artin seconded by Geo.l:'.uilbern.
Upon favorable report and motion of C.Ii.Carpenter seconded by Y.I.B.Ilartin the
application of L.Bottinelli for license for wrestling match at 1085 Higuera 6treet , April
17th at 8 o'clock P.11, , was granted with the understanding that the license fee paid
therefor shall be $ 25.00 for each exhibitions( see License Ordinance --7,o. 76 ( i;.S.) Sec 75.1.
Action on the petition for the abandonment of Emily Street was deferred.
In re petition of Herrera Bros for amendment to license Ordinance relative
to reducing fee for Boxing nxhibitiona -Frn*n �, .9n„nn per r•x}iibitinn to ..9n.nn =ar nnartar•
It was moved by Chas Forbes and se®onded by C.Id.Oarpenter that the fee for boxing remain
as it is at present , ( i.e. section 33 License Ordinance # 76 N.S. $ 50.00 per eThibition)I.
Commissioner Geo.W.Filbern moved to amend the motion with the provision that two bout
be permitted for the present fee,of $ 50.00 , and license be made a quarterly license.
The amendment was lost for the lack of a second. The original motion was then put
carried by the following vote :
Ayes : F- I.B.Ivlartin, C.I.I.Carpenter Chas Forbes, L.F.Sinsheimer,
Noes : Geo,1,11.7,ilbern.
Absent : None.
On motion of W.B.I�;Iartin seconded by C.L4.Carpenter the City Clerk was directe
to advertise for bids for the legal advertising for the remainder-of the fiscal year.ending
June 30th 1924.
On motion of C.M.Carpenter seconded by Geo,W.Kilbern the following licenses
re .ordered cancelled :

on motion of Geo.41T.Eilbern seconded by W.B.Irlartin , subject to its correctness on checking
the City Clerk or City Engineer.
The matter of the proposed paving of Yarsh and other streets was discussed
at - length. On motion- of VI.B.Martin seconded by Chas xorbes the matter of adopting
