City Hall, Tuesday, September 7th. 1926 - 7 :30 P. M.
City Council met in regular session as of Monday, Sept 6th( Labor Day Holiday),
I4iayor L.F.Sinsheimer presided.
Present : C.M.Carpenter, John Chapek, H.E.Cox, Chas Forbes, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent : None.
The minutes of August 16th. 23d. and 30th. were read and approved as read on
motion of C.M.Carpenter seconded by H.E.Cox.
The application of Mrs Adele.Brovelli for permit to place a Marnuee at the
entrance to Plaza Hotel on Osos Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health
and Safety for report on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by Chas Forbes.
The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of H,E.Cox
seconded by John Chapek:
Gustav A. Anderson - Garage lot 5 Block 15 Imperial Addition Cost 50.00
M, Fiscalini - Rebuild Garage pt lot 4 Block 33

Application of Ruth Tate for permit to lay 80 feet of full width sidewalk and

on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by John Chapek,
Application of Midland Counties Public Service Corporation „11o. 120 for permit
to set two poles on Johnson Street bet-seen First and Second Street , granted on motion of
H.E.Cox seconded by Chas Forbes.

Application of Milestone Interstate Corporation for permit to erect a sign board
on the south line of lot of N. Troy in Block 61, Lower Higuera Street , was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report, on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by
John Chapek.
The following petitions for permit to place6igns were referred to the-Commissi
of Public Health and Safety for report on motion of Chas Forbes seconded by H.F,.Coxs
United Meat Market - Electric Sign.( 2' x 7' ) at 714 Higuera Street.
The Sandwich Inn - Electric Sign ( 2' x 7' ) at 1029 Chorro Street.
C.E.Freeman - Galy. Iron & Frame sign ( 10'x 20 ' ) on property of E.Firpo at corne
of French and Higuera Street.

The reports of the City Collector, Police Judge and Pound Master for the
month of August were received and ordered filed on motion of Chas Forbes seconded by H.E.Cox.
Applications.of C.A.Gray, City San Luis Obispo a.nd of L.E.Simpson, 1604 East
81st Street , Los Angeles, California, for appointment to the office of Chief of Police
were received, -read and ordered on file on motion of C.I:I. Carp enter seconded by H.E.Coz.
The matter relative to the application for service for the two Electric Signs
erected by the h?onday Club vias before the Council. Discussion. On notion of
seconded by C.- I.- I.Carpento-r the matter -aas rafa_red to the Conraissioner.of S.uoolies with
po: >>e-r to sign said applications.
Ordinance '?o. 118 ( Ne-v Sarie,$) An Ordinance Levying a Tax for the current ..
fiscal year ( 1926 — 1927 ) upon all Taxable property within the City of San Luis Obispo.
and fixing the rate of such Tax at $ 1.42 on each one hundred dollars in valuation was
lfinally passed on motion o1 Chas Forbes seconded by C.M.Carpenter by the following vote:
Ayes: C.IvI.Carpenter , John Chapek, H.E.Cox , Chas Forbes , L.F.Sinsheimer.
Noes None.
Absent : None.
Claims against the City for the month of August were ordered paid subject to
the approval of the heads of the respective departments on motion of Chas Forbes seconded
by John Ohapek.
On motion duly seconded and carried the petition of A.I:i.Pettinger for permit tc
install gas tank, pump etc., at corner of Osos and Higuera Street, Lowe Property , was laid
lover for one week.
The application of Abe Bloomberg for permit tobang a board sign 2' x 6' at his
premises on Higuera Street between Osos and Morro Street was granted on motion of C.M,Carper
seconded by H.E.Cox ,subject to the usual restrictions.
Following discussion in re matters concerning the Police Department — it was
(moved by C.11.Carpenter and seconded by Chas Forbes and carried that the office of -..Chief of
IFolice be filled appointment to become effective October let.
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety nominated Ernest E. Thompson for
appointment as Chief of Police. It was then moved by Chas Forbes and sceoilded by
H.E.Cox that the nomination be confirmed. The motion carried.
On motion of H.E.Cox seconded by Chas Forbes the meeting adjourned to Monday,
September 13th at 7 :30. P..I.J.
