City Hall, Monday October 18th 1926 - 7 :30 P.M.
City Council met in regular session - Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : C.M.Carpenter, John Chapek, H.E.Cox, Chas Forbes, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent : None.
The minutes of October 4th and 11th were read and approved as read on motion
of Chas Forbes seconded by John Chapek.
136 Phillips Addition was laid over one week for further investigation and report.
Application of J.H.Logan for permit!-.to remove two buildings from lots 1 & 2
Block 116 Reeds Addition to parts of .lots 6 & 7 of the.same Block, was referred one week
for report on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by CoH.Carpenter.
On motion.of H.E.Cox seconded by John Chapek the application of S.W *Tripp .
for permit to remove two garages to rear of lots 4 & 5.Block 50 , was granted.
The application of Foster & F:leiser Company f.or permit to erect an adverti
ing.sign board on Lot 1 Block 87 , south side Marsh Street between Broad and Garden Street,
was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health.and.Safety for investigation and report
on motion of H.E.Cox seconded by John Chapek.

Petition'of Joseph Leary.for a Street Light at Garden and High Streets was
received and pn motion of Chas Forbes seconded by .John Chapek the same was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Viorks for-investigation and report to the Council.
On motion of H.E,Cox seconded by C.I:I.Carpenter, the petition of the Standard
Oil Company, requesting permission to make certain changes,as set forth in petition on file
in the two approaches to the said Company's Service Station at the corner of Monterey and
Santa Rosa Streets was granted, with the understanding that the approach on the Lonterey
Street side commence at the gutter line, and with the further provision, that the work be
done to the satisfaction and under the supervision of the City Engineer.
Petition of Hertz Drivurself Station,:Inc:(by F.M.Watson), for permit to hang
two galvanized iron signs, ( 241 x 3' ) at 1005 Monterey Street, Berkemeyer Garage, was
referred to-? -the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report on motion-of Chas F

The Official Bond of E.E.Thompson, as Chief of Police, was accepted and
approved on motion of Chas Forbes seconded by C.I!d.Carpenter.
The Merchandising Bond of Margaret Rhodes, Surety Sun Indemnity Company of
New York, was accepted and approved on motion of Chas.Forbes seconded by H.E.Cox.
Communication received from J.C.Deuel, Chairman Parade Committee of the Ameri
Legion,Post No. 66, extending an invitation to the Council to participate in the Armistice
Day Parade. On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by C.LI.Carpenter the invitation was
accepted with thanks.
Petition was received from property owners on Pacific Street between Santa Ro
Street and San Luis Bbispo Creek requesting that two.trees be removed from'the Street.
The matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public.67orks for investigation and report to
the Council on motion of C.11A.Carpenter seconded by John Chapek.
The report of the City Clerk for the month of September was received and :orde
filed on motion of C.M.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forbes.
Application of Iderritt B. Smith,Jre for appointment as Traffic Officer was
received. On motion of C.M.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forbes the application was ordered'.
filed together with references.
C.L.Slusher appeared and requested that the position of Elinor Street be Chang
Discussion. Upon the suggestion of Mayor Sinsheimer the.matter.was referred to the City
Attorney to advise the Council as to all legal proceedings in connection.therewith. • City
Engineer to present plat or sketch showing proposed change.
Idr.Chittenden appeared in re proposed Ruth Street subway and requested that
preliminary survey be made and matter brought before Railroad Commission. Discussion.
On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by John Chapek -,the City Engineer was directed to get in
touch with, and cooperate with Yr. Horrison of the Southern Pacific Company relative to
such preliminary survey9etc.
The petition of V.W.Giddings for permit to hang an Electric Sign at 842 Higuera
Street was granted on motion of C.I,4.Carpenter seconded by Chas Forh.es.
The petition of Joe Moranda for transfer of his interest in licenses for lunch
Counter, Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline,issued to Roranda & Reeves,815 I:ionterey Street, toy
R.S.Jones was granted on favorable-report and motion of C.Y,Carpenter seconded by H.E.Cox.
On motion of Chas Forbes seconded by H.E.Cox the - petition of the Southern
Pacific Company for permit to close a portion • of.Lorraine -Terrace and a portion of B
Del Campo in the City-of San Luis Obispo was.granted.
On favorable report and motion of H.E.Cox seconded by C.L,!.Carpenter it was
ordered that a Gas.Light.be installed on Pismo Street between Essex Street and the Southern
Pacific Company's right :of way..
In re Salary-.Chief of. Police Discussion. It was moved by C.I:i.Carpenter
and seconded by H.E.Cox that the salary of the.Chief of Police be fixed at '$ 175.00 per mo
Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer requested Vice President.of th:e.Council..Chas i'orbes to preside and
moved the amendment,- that the salary of the Chief of Police be fixed at $250.00 per mon
The amendment was seconded by John Chapek., Amendment.put and declared lost.
The,original motion was then put and carried by the.folloasing roll call vote:

It was moved by Yayor L.F.Sinsheimer and-seconded by C.EI.Carpenter that the
Salary of the City-Collector be raised from $11040 per month to $ 125900 per month. The
motion carried.
It was moved, by Mlayor L.F.Sinsheimer and seconded by H.E.Cox that the salary•
of the Chief of the Fire Department be raised from # 38.50 per month to $ 50.00 per month.
The motion carried,
It.was moved by Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer and seconded by John Chapek that the
of the City Attorney be raised from $ 75,.00.-per month to $. 100900 per month* laotion carried.
It was.moved.'by Mayor-.L.F.Sinsheimer and seconded by'H.E.Cox. that the salary of
the City Treasurer be raised from $ 35.00 per month to $ 50.00 per month. The motion

It was moved by C,M,Carpenter and.seconded by'H.E.Cox that A.H.Brazil be
appointed as Police Judge., appointment to become effective upon -the qualification of
appointee. The motion carried.
