J. Defosset and seconded by John Chapek that the Granite Construction Company be requested to furnish.regular surety Bonds, or Bonds equally satisfactory to the Council. The motion carried. The matter of the Award of Contract for the improvement of Upper Monterey Street by Paving, ."esolution of Intention No. 270 (New Series), was again taken up. Matter discussed and on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes, the Santa Maria Construction Company, the low Bidder, was requested to furnish the Council with Financial Statement and Banking re- ferences, also, a list of Officers and Stockholders. The motion carried. On motion of H. E. Cox seconded by Chas. Forbes the matter of awarding the contract for the work described in resolution of Intention No. 270 (New Series), Monterey Street Paving, was continued to I.1onday, I.1ay 6th., 1929, at 7 :30 P. City Council met in regular session - Layor L. F. Sinsheimer presiding. Present: Charles Forbes, L. J. Defosset, H. E. Cox, John Chapek, L. F. Sinsheimer. Absent: None. The minutes of April 15th, 22nd, and 29th were read and approved as read on motion of Charles Forbes seconded by H. E. Cox. The application of John Sotrlik for permission to improve buildings on a part of lot 5 block 28 at a cost of $ 90.00 was granted on motion of H. E.-Cox seconded by John Chapek. The following applications for permit to connect with the city sewer were granted on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by John Chapek: B. A. 47alton - Second Street between Hathway Avenue and Howard Street. C. L. Slusher - L,Iurray Avenue between Park Street and Grove Street. Dr. W. D. Butler- Johnson Avenue between Upham Street and Spring Street. The Santa Maria Gas Company was permitted to break pavement 2 x 3 ft. to tap gas main on Garden Street between Higuera Street and harsh Street on motion of H. E. Cox seconded by Chas. Forbes with the understanding that the former petition for breaking pavement on harsh Street between Chorro Street and Garden Street to install gas connection for Bank of America be withdrawn. The motion carried. The petition of Adella Edgmon for transfer of license for merchandise at 1601 Osos Street to Floyd C. Cook was granted upon motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes. The petition of the Central Supply Company for permit to install a 285 gallon under- ground gasoline storage tank, together with a wive gallon pump, on lot 7 block 187A was re- ferred to:,the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council on motion of . E. Cox seconded by Charles Forbes. 1 11 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 127 The reports of the City Collector, the Police Judge and the Pound Laster for the month of April were received and ordered filed on motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by H. E. Coy A petition vies presented by the meat dealers of the cite relative to meat inspectioi The matter was discussed and on motion of John Chapek seconded by Chas. Forbes the petition was ordered received and placed on file and that reference thereto be made to Dr..Gillihan, City Health Officer. Claims against the city for the month of April were ordered paid subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments on motion of John Chapek seconded by L. J. Defosset. The matter of the report of the City Collector, on unpaid licenses was referred to the Police Department for investigation and report on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes. On motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox the petition of the Coca -Cola Bottling Works for permit to install a 120 gallon gasoline storage tank together with pump at 969 Islay Street was granted with the provision that the same be installed under the supervision of the City Engineer and in accordance �,,ith the rules and regulations of the National Board of Fire Underwriters, and, with the further provision that the same be removed at the pleasure of the Council. Application of L-Irs. Jessie Iii. Trujillo for license for Boarding House at 896 Sye Street was granted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by H. E. Cox. The application of I.1. Stanton for permit to erect an all metal sign 12 x 12 ft. atop A. E. Brooking Building at 956 I1onterey Street was granted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Charles Forbes with the provision that the same be installed under the supervision of the City Engineer, and also, with the provision that the applicant take a license. The matter of the award of contract for the improvement of Upper Monterey Street by paving, in accordance with Resolution of Intention No. 270 (Nevi 2eries), was taken up by the Cou;icil. It appearing that the Santa Haria Construction Company had not furnished the Council with certain data requested, it vies moved by L. J. Defosset and seconded by John Chapel that the matter of the award of contract for the said improvement l:,Ork be postponed to Lionday, May 13th, 1929 at 7 :30 P. Ia; that the Commissioner of Finance and Revenue be requested to communicate with the Santa Maria Construction Company for information required by the Council. The motion carried. The Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, L. J. Defosset presented the resigna- tion of F. J. Bollinger as Chief of Police. Discussion. It was moved by L. J. Defosset and seconded by H. E. Cox that the resignation of Hr. Bollinger be accepted, becoming effective May 1st. The motion carried. It was moved by L. J. Defosset and seconded by John Chapek that Harry A. Payton be appointed acting Chief of Police; said appointment to be effective Iday 1st. at the same salary drawn by the former Chief of Police. The motion carried. It was moved by H. E.
