J. Defosset, H. Cox_, John Chapek, L. F. Sinsheimer. Absent: None. The minutes of !:lay 6th, 13th and 15th were read and approved as read on motion of Charles Forbes seconded b�- H. E. Cox. The following- applications for permit to build were granted on motion of H. E. Cox- seconded by 1. J. Defosset: C. I:i. Hemstreet - -Residence and garage pt. Avila was granted permit to raze improvements on lots 5 and 6 block 107 I.7urray and Church Addition on motion of John Chapek seconded by H. E. Cox. On motion of H. E'. Cox seconded by L. J. Defosset the following applications for sever connections were granted: rett H. Bowen - Chorro Street between Center Street and 1.1ountain View Street. H. C. Zinsman - Upham Street between Garden Street and Fixlini Street. A petition was received from rs. C. R. Garrison requesting permit to remove one or more shade trees on curb line of sidewalk at 1343 Higuera Street. Discussion. On motion of H. E. Cox seconded by L. J. Defosset the petition was granted r:ith the provision that, but one tree be removed. The petition of Guy Baldwin for permit to attach a Ideon Electric Sign to a telephone pole in front of Baldwin I.'otor Service at 406 Higu:. -ra .street was received. la -otter discussed. On motion of Charles Forbes seconded by H. E. Corti it was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council. In a communication the American Legion Auxialliary iio. 136 of Arroyo Grande re- quested permit to sell poppies on the streets of the City of San Luis Obispo, yay 25th. Dis- cussion. On motion of John Chapek seconded by H. E. Cox the matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public. Health and Safety with power to act. In a communication the San Leandro Cherry Festival Committee extended an invitation to the city Officials of the City of San Luis Obispo to participate in the Twentieth Annual Cherry restival to be held in San Leandro June 3rd. On motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes the communication alas received and ordered filed; Cit17 Clerk to ackno�� ledge invitation ,�.ith thanks. Petition of R. A. 1,7alton et. al. relative to the improvement of Howard Street be- tween Second and Third Streets was received and on motion of H. F. Cox seconded by Chas. Forbes the same ;:as referred to the City Engineer for checking and report to the Council. In re Fire Co- operation: It -as rnoved by Char;. Forbes seconded by H. Cox that $•200.00 be contributed by the City of San Luis Obispo to be applied on salary of Fire Guard for patrolling that part of the Sian Luis Obispo rater shed within the ?dational Forest. I:fotion carried. The matter of the petition of E. Lawrence et, al, relative to opening t_entucky Avenue grade crossing at the railroad tracks was laid over to the next meeting. Application of S'ear's -Restaurant by Ben J. Sears for license for Cigar Sideline at 978 Monterey Street was granted on motion of L. J. Defosset seconded by Chas. Forbes. The application of the Santa I�iaria Gas Company for permit to lay an 811. gas main as set forth in petition on file was laid over until additional investigation could be made. 132 It was moved by L. J. Defosset and seconded by Iaayor L. F. Sinsheimer that the reque of Tars. Evelyn Walter in the interest of the American Brotherhood of Free reading for the Bl for permit to hold a tag day in the City of San Luis ubispo.- -on the 25th day of Iday be laid up- on the table. The motion carried. Applications of Foster Kleiser Company for permit to. erect sign Boards in Block 7, Block 61 and Block 75 were laid over for one week. On motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by John Chapek the City Attorney was requested to b"rinc, in a written opinion relative to rates for legal advertising. The matter of unpaid licenses for the quarter of April 1st and also for the quarter of January 1st vies taken up. On motion of L. J. J. Defosset seconded by Charles Forbes license No. 1353 issued to B. Bryce Brown (Arrowhead Springs 19ater) for Lidse (Water) in the amount of $2.50 was referred to the City Attorney for collection, and if necessary in order to collect to proceed with action under the penal section of the license ordinance. The motion carried. The City Engineer presented plans and specifications for the extension of a culvert at Broad and Leff Streets. Discussion. On motion of Chas. Forbes seconded by H. E. Cox the said plans and specifications for the said culvert were adopted and the City Clerk was direct- ed to advertise for bids for the construction of said culvert; Bids to be received up to 7 :30 o'clock P. M. Jude 3rd, 1929. The City Clerk was also directed to notify property owners in the district of the proposed improvement work that if they so desired they mould be permitted to construct their ova.1 sidewalk and curb by private contract or otherwise, provided, that notic to that effect be given to the City engineer on or before Inlay 30, 1929, and that such work commence not later than b.1ay 30, 1929.
