J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howe11, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Absent : None, The following application for permit to build were granted on motion of J.B.Berke- meyer: seconded by L.J.Def onset . Home Laundry Company- - Repairs and remodeling Block 101 Mission Vineyard Tract Cost 0200000 Harry J. Laird . Store and office Lot 13, Block 44 Cost $1,800000 Application of Midland Counties Public Service Corporation for permit to do certain work on North Broad Street between Palm Street and Mission Street, as set out in application on file, was granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. Application of S.IMS.Tognazzini, together with Bond, for "Wholesale Off Sale" license referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council, on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell. Petition of F.I.Thomas et al relative to peddlers laid over to the next meeting of the Council. Action on application of.Iuerrifield Electric Company for permit to hang a Neon sign for the Associated Service Station, 301 Higuera Street, again deferred. On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by L.J.Defosset, W.A.Brouilett and Son were permitted to out sidewalk on Pacific Street near Beach Street, for purpose.of repairing broken Water Service for Mrs.G.A.Brown. Work to be done under supervision of the City Engineer, Application of Cline's Electric Shop for permit to hang a Neon Sign for Browning Furniture Company, Broad and Higuera Street, granted on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by R.P.Howell with the provision that the said Sign be hung in accordance with the provisionsi:of Ordinance and under the supervision of the City Engineer. Application of hirs.F.Chavis for license for Lunch Counter at 866 Palm Street grant- ed on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by R.P.Howell. Application of Simon Levi Company, Ltd., for license for wholesale distribution of Beer, together with Bond, was granted on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer. :application of E.D.ward, of PayIn Takit Stores, 971 Higuera Street, for "Retail Off Sale" license for Beer denied, on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer. Joseph Leary voted "No." Action on the following matters pending, continued.: Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company for permit to set pole on Story Street near Pacific Coast R. R. Tracks; Petition P.A.H.Arata in re Delinquent Taxes; Petitions of H.E.Clark and William T.Walker in re license for Contractor; Petition of T.F.lveaver et al in re premises at 1416 Palm Street. Certain.licensea.remaining unpaid for the. (Beer Ordinance)* batter discussed. Joseph Leary moved the adoption of said Ordinance. The motion was lost for the lack of a second. City Attorney presented a proposed Ordinance amending Sections 27 and 28 of Ordinance No. 170 (New Series) (Beer Ordinance). Matter discussed. It was moved by Joseph Leary and seconded by R.P.Howell that the said Ordinance be adopted. The motion was loft by the following vote : Ayes : Joseph.Leary. Noes J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, L.F.Sinsheimer Absent : Lions. It was moved by R.P.Howell and seconded by L.J.Defosset that the Commissioner of Supplies be authorized to enter into a rental contract with W.T.Reid Company for the purchase of a Ford Truck at a cost of $547.50,9n a rental basis of $100.00 per month. The motion carried. In re Modal 10 Rockne Sedan for Police Department. It was moved by J.B.Berkemeyer and seconded by L.J.Defosset that the car be accepted. That the Clerk draw a warrant in favor of C. A. Maino in the amount of $250.00 for first rental payment thereon. The motion carried.
