City Hall, Monday, August 29th 1934 - 7;30 p.M.
City Council met in adjourned session - I:Iayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent : None.
The matter of fixing the Tax Rate for the current fiscal year ( 1934 - 1935 )
was taken up and "the following rates for the respective funds were unanimously agreed.i.upon:

Fiscal Year ( 1934 - 1935 ) upon all taxable property within the City of San Luis Obispo ,
and fixing the rate of such Tax at $ 1.55 on each one hundred dollars in value of said
property, for the purposes hereinabove specified, was introduced and passed to.print, on
motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell by the following vote:
Ayes J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset,
R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, Ir.F.Sinsheimer.
Noes : None.
Absent : None.
On motion duly seconded and carried leave of absence was granted Vice President
of the Council L.J- .Defosset, for the period September 3rd to September 17th 1934.
On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded.by: .E.P.Howell the meeting adjourned,

City Council met in regular session - Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : J.B.Berkeineyer, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent : L.J.Jefosset.
The minutes of August 20th., 27th. and 29th were read and approved as read on
motion of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary.
The application of Swift and Co for permit to construct a four Stall Garage in
Block 62 at a cost of $ 450.00 was granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by
R.P.Howell with the provision that bailding fee of $ 2.00 be paid.
In the absence of Commissioner of Public Health & Safety, L.J.Diefosset the
application of Edna L. Mercer for license for Lunch Counter at 1177 11arsh Street was referred
to the Commissioner of Finance for investigation and report to the Council.

Application of J.H. Hollister , by E.141.Payne Hardware, for permit to open
pavement on Higuera Stree.t.between Essex Street and Johnson Street for purpose of removing
old Sewer line and replacing with Cast Iron Sewer pipO was referred to the Commissioner of
Public ;jorks with power to act, .
bpplication of :iidland Counties Public Service L,orporation for permit to do
certain work on Osos Street between pacific Street and iachel Street, in collcection with
the proposed installation of 10 electric Street lights along said Street, as more particularly
set out in said application, was referred to the Commissioner of Public Viorks for investigation
and report, on motion of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary. The power Company to
furnish the council with sketch of proposed installation.
The reports of the City Treasurer for the month of July 1934 and thbee of the
ity Collector and the Police Judge for the month of August 1934 were received and ordered
iled on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer- seconded by Joseph Beary.
The petition of the Board of Directors of First Church of Christ, Scientists, for
ermit to place two signs on post now in position at Higuera and Garden Streets, directing
o the Christian Science Church on Garden Street, was referred to-the Commissioner pf
blic Health and Oafety.for report to the Council.

tersections received and ordered placed on file.
Claims against the City for the month of August 1934 were ordered paid, on motion
z.F.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary, subject to the approval of the heads of the
spective departments and the Mayor.
Ordinance.No. 178 ( New Series ) An Ordinance levying a Tag for the current fiscal
year ( 1934 - 1935 ) upon all taxable property within the City of San Luis Obispo, and
fixing the rate of such tag at 6 1.55 on each one hundred dollars in value of said proper
was finally passed, on motion of J.B.Berke -ieyer seconded by Joseph ,Leary by the following
vote :
Ayes : J.B.berkemeyer, R.P.Howell. Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Noes : None,
Absent : L.J.Defosset.
Application of G.S.Newe12 for license for Restaurant at 1025 11orro Street, granted
on notion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell.
The report of the City Collector on licenses for the July quarter 1934 was taken u ;
Those licenses reported under the Captions " Held for Collection '" and ^ Reported out of
Business for Cancellation " were referred to the Chief of Police for collection.
?.Tatters pending were continued to the next meeting .
On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell the meeting adjourned to Tues
September 11th 19349 at 7 :30 P.1,1.
