City Hall, Monday, November 16th 1936 - 7 :30 p.I.I.
City Council met in regular session - I::�ayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding.
Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Hol =yell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer.
Absent : IT one .
The minutes of November 2nd and 9th were read and approved as read.
The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of
J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Hovwell :
permit to hang a Red Cross Banner from top of 1orton Drug Store Building to Fd.iueman Hotel
building, spanning Higuera and Chorro Street intersection, for the period November 17th
to November 22nd. inclusive, referred to the Co.n.iissioner of public Health and Safety for
investigation and power to act.
Petition of Christine oerntlein et al requesting that a street light be
placed in center of Block on Palm Street between Essex Street and Johnson Street received
r discussion, it was moved by 3.P.Howell seconded by J.B- Berk.eiaeyer, that the petition
be received and placed on file : that the matter of the need of an extra light at the
' above named location be taken up immediately after lights of the second unit of the new
lighting system have been turned on. ::lotion carried.
Petition of '_1heodore ivi. I.Iaino for J.G.Jones Service Station, for permit to move
City Fire Plug at the corner of s;iarsh and Broad Streets, from its present location on
rsh Street to a similar location on Broad Street, point of location to be designated by
ity Engineer, received. After discussion it was moved by J.3.Berkemeyer seconded by
.P.Hovwell and curried, that the petition be granted, with the provision that lar Jones
eimburse the City for all expense incurred in connection with change of location of such
ire plug and that work be done in accordance with specifications of the City -Engineer and
hander his supervision . I:?ayor L.F.Sinsheimer voted negatively.
i:.r Tannis of Berkemeyer Garage appeared relative to certain license-fees.
Hatter discussed and on motion of 3.F.i10we11 seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer the Police Departme t
and the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety were requested to furnish the Council with
full report of all persons, firms or corporations operating garages, service stations,
sale of autos and accessories or any other business in connection with above mentioned lines.
Petition of J.G.Jones for permit to ramp sidewalk at Service Station corner of
larsh and Broad Streets was taken up. ?;latter discussed. It was moved by
' .3.Berkemeyer seconded by E.P.Howell and curried that the applicant be permitted to ramp
:80.'ft ;of 'sidewalk on I.iarsh Street and 56 ft on 3raod S•t.re.,et;, work to be done under sup-
ervision of the City Engineer; It was further understood and agreed that the City reserve
the right to rescind the above action at such time as the public necessity and convenience
requires. Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer voted " I ?o ".
The application of A.J.`,'ictorino for license for Cigars as a Sideline at 1901
Brood Street granted on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by R.F.Iiorwell.

The following applications for permit to hang signs .��iere granted with the
provision that said signs be hung according to provisions of Crdinance and under the
supervision of the City Bncineer:

Valley Electric Go - Neon Sign at Genardini's 779 Higuera Street.
Petition of Shell Oil Company for permit to install 1 - 1000 gallon gasoline
storage tank in Block 23 , corner T,Tonterey and Santa ZLosa Streets, laid over.
Petition of S.C.Schultz, Superintendent of 19ater -jepartment of the City of
San Luis dbi.po, for permit to out pavement on ialm Street between i;Iorro Street and Chorro
Street, and, on Pacific Street between Garden Street and Broad Street for purpose of
repairing leaks in water services, and on I- Ionterey Street at Santa ;osa Street to instal
1" service for Shell Oil Company Service Station was granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer
seconded by H.P.Howell.

Application of Tony Tomboc for license for Soft Drinks at 861 Palm Street grant
on motion duly seconded and carried.
Application of A. Spurgeon for permit to put up certain Street decorations,
sponsored by Merchants of the city, for Christmas Holiday's :lsid.over.
Petition of Sears _'Roebuck & Co., by E.F. Hobart, for permit to erect a Christmas
Isign a -top building at 879 Higuera Street together with other illuminated Christmas
Idecorations granted on motion duly seconded and carried.
On motion of Joseph Leary seconded by L.J.Defosset it was ordered that i:ir. �,ard

Iof Ward's Earket, 839 Marsh Street, also the ;;•asonic Hall - _Association, be ordered and directed
to repair, alter and fix sidei�,ialk at entrance of said Store under the direction and in
accordance with specifications of the City Engineer. The Commissioner of public Works
directed to see that such work is done.
On motion of J.B.3erkemeyer seconded by 3.P.Howell the Commissioner of supplies
Iwas authorized and directed to purchase two pedestrian warning signs for use at _•remont
ISchool .
All matters pending were continued to the next meeting.
On motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.BerkeLneyer the meeting adjourned to
