Application of .Barbara Chavis for license for :estairant at 887 Palm street
again laid over.
On favorable report of the Co:,niissioner of Public Health and Safety the
following applications for permit to hang signs were granted, with the provision that workh
be done in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance and under the supervision of the
City Engineer :
Sam Holland - neon Sign at Strong's Cleaning �.Iorks, 659 Higuera Dtre::t.
Valley Electric Co - :peon Sign, for Daniel's P,adion and Appliance Co., 998 Higuera
All unfinished matters continued to the nest meeting.
On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P,Howell the meeting adjourned to
Saturday, I:isy 15th 1937s at 7:30 P.mi.

The minutes of May 3rd. 10th. and 15th. were read and approved as read.
The Merchandising Bond of L.H.Leidig with =;.n.Long as Surety, was approved and
he Surety accepted, on motion of i.P.Howell seconded by L.J.Defosset.
Petition of I:iart Rosenthal for transfer of license for i:ierchandise ( ;rater ) to
rowhead- Puritan :'later Co ( C. Fouch Lgr ) granted on motion duly seconded and carried.
The Council now proceeded to organize as a new Council as of iI.-iay 15th 1937:
e "members elect having previously taken Oath of Office their Official Bonds were preseritec3�.
Council approving the Bond of I:Iayor L.F.Sinsheimer, and I;iayor L.F.Sinsh imer approving
he Bonds of Councilmen 3.P.'r',owell and Joseph Leary.
On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by ;.P.Howell, L.J..Defosset was placed in
nomination for Vice President of the Council and upon roll call, L.J.Defosset was
unanimously elected, and so declared, 'lice President of the Council.
For Commissioner of Finance and Revenue, _;.F.Hoi-vell was placed in nomination
by J.B.Berkemayer, seconded by Joseph Leary, and upon roll call, RG-F- Howell...was .unanimou
elected, and so declared, Commissioner of Finance and Revenue.

For Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, L.J.Defosset was nominated by

For Commissioner of Supplies Joseph Leary was placed in nomination by
L.J.Defosset, seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer, and upon roll call, Joseph Leary was unanimously
elected, and so declared, Commissioner of Supplies.
For Commissioner of Public '::orks Joseph B. 3erkemeyer was placed in nomination
by L.J.Defosset seconded by n.P.Howell, and on roll call, Joseph B. Berkemeyer ti'+as ui _:iou ly
elected, and so declared, Coi.i iissioner of Public 's-orks.
It was :coved by J.B.Berkemeyer and seconded by R.P.iiowell that all present
appointive officials be re- appointed. Discussion. Lotion ruled out of order.
With the consent of the second the motion was itithdrawn.
It was moved by L.J.Defosset and seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer that the various
appointive officials continue in their present positions until their successors are appointed.
The motion carried.
The petition of Theo. i::. R;aino for valley Ice Service, for permit to install
a refrigerator bog for the storage of ice on Lot 3 Block 23, Santa -Rosa Street between
Higuera Street and I.I7 onteray Street, was again before the Council. Discussion. The said
structure being located within the Fire Zone and not complying with standard requirements
of Ordinance, the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety reported unfavorable and on his
aotion seconded by R.P.Howell it was ordered that the petition be denied; that the Chief
of Police be directed to notify owners to remove said structure.
Application of Neon Sales and Service, by ;;.I ..4ndrez, for permit to hang a
eon Sign for J.C. Hill Sporting Goods, at 1039 Chorro Street granted on motion of
.J.Defosset seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer.
Petition of R. Bassi for permit to remove a pepper tree from sidewalk area at
Higuera Street, F.M.Love property, denied on motion of ,.P.Howell seconded by
.J.Defosset. Petition not in regular form.
Re: petition of Smee's Plumbing and Heating for permit to break pavement in 140
ock on Jarsh Street: Latter discussed and laid over. City Attorney'to have certa
dvice for Council at the next meeting.
