The following applications of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company were
referred to the Commissioner of Public 9,!orks for investigation and report ;
1 - On Beebee Street between Branch Street and South Street ; To remove a 30ft pole
and replace with a 45 ft pole.
2 South Street between Beebee Street and Higuera gtreet:; Set 2 - 30ft poles to
furnish telephone service to applicant located on South Street.
Unfinished matters continued.
Commissioner of iu_olic Health and Safety reported unfavorably on application of
Mrs E.L.bionroe for permit to hang a metal sign with wood frame at 1804 0808 Street, and on
on of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary the application was ordered denied.
On motion of R.P.Howell seconded by Joseph Leary the meeting adjourned to Monday,

Applications of Russell S. Lauer for licenses for Billiards & Pool, Cigars
Sideline and Soft Drinks at 986 Monterey Street referred to the Commissioner of Public
Health and Safety for investigation and report.
Petition of Addison Chong for permit to construct 541 ft of full width side-
walk on the west side of Chorro Street between Palm Street and Mill Street referred to
the Commissioner of Public Works for report.
The following applications for permit to hang signs were referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report&
Randle's Inc. (1) - Neon Sign reading "Chitwood Bootery" at 766 Higuera Street.
(2) - Neon Sigh reading "Cafe" at 1240 Monterey Street.
Cline's Electric Shop - Neon Sign reading "Kelly .Tires" at O'Reilly Service Station
Higuera & Osos Streets.
The report of the City Collector for the month of January received and ordered
placed on file on motion of R.P. Howell seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer.
On motion of R.P. Howell seconded by J.B: Berkemeyer the following applications
for permit to connect with sewer were referred to the Commissioner of public Works for
investigation and report :
Frank W. Funk - Mill Street between Park Street and Grove Street.
Broad Street between Marsh Street and Pacific Street.
Application of Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to break pavement on North
Broad Street in front of Lyle Carpenter residence to repair gas leak, granted on motion of
J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by Joseph Leary.
Application of Midland Counties Public Service Corporation # 247 for permit to
remove small tree and reset pole on south side of Marsh Street between Johnson Avenue and
Ida Street referred to the Commissioner of public Works for investigation and report, on
motion of R.P. Howell seconded by L.J. Defosset, as was also, the application of G.
Stocklausen for permit to remove two trees at 512 Dana Street, which are breaking up
sidewalk and curbing.
Claims against the City for the month of January 1938 were ordered paid subject
to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor, on motion of
R.P. Howell seconded by J.B. Berkemeyer.
Claim of State Compensation Insurance Fund in the amount of $250.00 (same being
Deposit premium on renewal of Insurance on City Employees, as of February 7th, 1938.) was
ordered paid on motion of R.P. Howell seconded by L.J. Defosset:
J.R. Lazarus, Regional Manager of Pacific Coast Zlectrical Bureau, addressed the
Council re: Electrical Code.
Application of Midland Counties Public Service Corporation 77 246 for permit to do
certain work on Church Street between Santa Barbara Avenue and Morro Street particularly
described in application on file, was granted on motion of J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by
B.P. Howell.
On motion of J.B. Berkemeyer seconded by R.P. Howell the application of Mary
Jasperson for permit to connect with the main public sewer on Second Street between Kentuc
Street and Southern Pacific Railroad Right -of -way was granted.
