City Hall, Monday, June 6th 1938 - 7 :30 P.M.
City Council met in regular session- Vice President of the Council L.J.Defosset
presiding.
Present - J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary.
Absent - Mayor L.F.Sinsheimer. ,
The minutes of May 16th 23rd and 31st were read and approved as read.
On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell the following applications
for permit to build were granted:

The application of Max Ossman and the application of August Lohrberg for permit
to build were held over until Contractor's names, in each case, are specified.
Application of Federal Recreation Projects, by Allen T. Doggett, for permit to
place a sandwich sign on the sidewalk in front of Fitzgerald building, :Monterey Street,
advertising dances to be held on the odd Thursdays of the month, was referred to the
Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation.and report to the Council, as
was also, the application of J.AGillen for permit to place a sign at Mission Tailor Shop
cornet IMonterey and Chorro Streets.
Application of Mrs.H.Domas for permit to connect with sewer, Fixlini Street,
granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell.
Application of the Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to open trench on west side
of Broad Streetnbetween Lincoln Street and Murray Avenue to replace old 3" gas main, grante
on motion duly seconded and carried work to be done under the supervision of the
City Engineer.
Application of the Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to break 4 holes 2' x 3'
feet in pavement on Broad Street between Venable Street and Mission Street to connect
services to new main, granted on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by Joseph Leary : work
to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer.
The report of the City Treasurer for the month of April, and those of the City
Collector, Police Judge and Pound Master for the month of May were received and ordered
placed on file.
The following applications for registration as Contractors were received and on
motion duly seconded and carried the respective sureties were accepted, bonds approved
and registration granted :

The following notification of liquor license application to State Board of
Equalization received:
5/31/38 - Wm.H.Blanton(Nehi Bottling Co) Beer Importers license 447 Higuera Street
Chief of Police reported on the above application and on motion of R.P.Howell seconded by
J.B.Berkemeyer the same was ordered placed on file.
The claim of A.D.'Nallace in the amount of $ 140.00, being for services as Radio
Inspector for the month of May 1938, ordered paid on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by
Joseph Leary. It was further understood that the services of Mr. Wallace continue until
further notice.
