HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/06/19381 1 L 1 City Hall, Tuesday, September 6th 1938 - 7 :30 P.M. City Council met in regular session - 'Jayor L.F.Sinsheimer presiding. Present : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Absent None. The minutes of August 15th. 22nd. and 29th were read and approved as read. The following applications for permit to build vrere granted L.J.Niorganti - Duplex Residence & Garage pt lot 5 Block 9 Cost 61000.00 Barbara Brazil - Residence Lot 4 Block 92 Murray & Cturch Addn Cost 950.00 Application received from ,Tames Bickmore, by Theo. M. Maino, for permit to con- struct a reinforced concrete retaining wall on north bank of San Luis Obispo creek in 25- Block 61, Dana Street. Tatter discussed and 1 =_yid over for a report from the City Enginee at the next meeting of the Council. Application of i. -Trs 1.4.L.Reynolds for transfer of licenses for merchandise and gasoline pump at 707 Santa Barbara Avenue to -;lilliam A. Spurlock referred to the Com - missioner of Public Health and .Safety for investigation and report on motion of Joseph Lea seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer. Application of B..T.Piercy and J.P.Lapp for registration as Class " E n Contractor, together with U.S.Fidelity and Cuaranty Company Bond in the amount of $ 500.00 and registrat- ion fee of $ 15.00 received, amd on :notion of R.P.Howell seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer the Surety was accepted, bond anoroved and registration granted The reports of the City Collector, the Police. Judge and the Pound raster for the month of August 1938 received and ordered placed on file. The claims of Harry E. Haskins, Sheriff of the County of San Luis Obispo , for the month of July in the amount of $ 36.75 ( 147 meals at .25 ) , and also for the month of August in the amount of $ 13.50 ( 54 meals at .25 ), furnished prisoners committed to the County_ Jail by Police Judge, were refused and denied, on motion of Joseph Leary seconded by J.B.Berkemeyer. Claim of `ers Irene J. Carpenter in the amount of $ 125..05 , being in settlement of judgment rendered against the City of San Luis Obispo by the Superior Court, was allowed, in accordance with compromise of judgment negotiated by the City. .Attorney, on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell by the following vote : Ayes : J.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Noes : None. ,b ent: Mone. Claim of D.H.Foree and Flora E. Foree in the amount of 150.00 , being in settlement of judgment rendered against the City of San Luis Obispo by the Superior Court, was .allowed, iniaccordance with compromise of judgment negotiated by the City Attorney, on motion of i J.IB.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.FTowell.by the following vote : s : T.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.TT.Towell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Ndes : None. Absent : None. Claims against the City for the month of August were ordered paid on motion of P.F.owell seconded by L.J.Defo.sset subject to the approval of the heads of the respective partments and the Mayor. The report of the City Collector on unpaid licenses for July quarter referred to the Police Department for collection. Jesse Urey of State Highway Patrol addressed the Council re Police Radio Control. tter discussed and taken under advisement. 26 Mr. Reasoner of'.--The Gamewell Company addressed the Council re Air -type fire Siren to replace bell destroyed in recent fire at City Hall. After much discussion the representative was requested to address a letter to the Council setting out in datail the workings of the Small and the Large compressed air alarm set ups. On motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell the applications of Frank E.Sm for licenses for Restaurant, Soft Drinks and Cigars Sideline at 978 "onterey Street, were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. Ordinance .No. 187 ( New Series ) , An Ordinance levying a tax for the current fiscal year ( 1938 -1939 ) upon all taxable property within the City of San Luis Obispo and 1 fixing the rate of such tax at $ 1.38 on each one hundred dollars in value of said property was finally passed, on motion of J.B.Berkemeyer seconded by R.P.Howell by the folloi -.ring vote: Ayes : T.B.Berkemeyer, L.J.Defosset, R.P.Howell, Joseph Leary, L.F.Sinsheimer. Noes : None. Absent : :None. AnT,lication of Ray Hemstreet for permit to connect with sewer on Hutton.Street between Sandercock Street and High Street granted with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. A, plic.tions of Geo Dawson for permit to hang certain signs at 1088 Figuera tree were laid -over until Modern :Neon Sign Company of Santa 1.Iaria, takes a license for' contracting in the City of San Luis Obis.po.- Application of Veterans of Foreign Wars for permit to place posters at certain locations to advertise a show given by said organization in the month of September, grante on motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by R.P.Howell. On motion duly seconded and' carried the petition of R.undle`s Inc., for permit to erect a Neon Sign at 993 Higuera Street for W.11,7.Long, was granted, sign to hang according to the provisions of Ordinance and work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The following applications for licenses were granted uagenbeck- Wallace Circus,by Vernon Keaver l t - Circus Exposition Park S.L.Bowling Recreation ( F.J.Bott ) - Soft Drinks & Cigars Sideline 1115 Santa Rosa Stri=et. Geo Dawson - Lunch Counter, ;oft Drinks, and Cigars Sideline 1088 Higuera itreet. Applications of L.E'.7ashburn and Joe Venema for permit to connect with sewer again continued. On motion of L.J.Defosset seconded by T.B.Berkemeyer the meeting adjourned to Monday, September 12th 19381 at 7:30 P.'_;?.
