City Hall, Monday, December 19, 1938 - 7:30 P. M. 0 City Council met in regular session - Mayor L. F. Sinsheimer presiding. Presents J. B. Berkemeyer,.L.J. Defosset, R.P. Howell, Joseph Leary, L. F. Sinsheimer. Absent: None. The minutes of December 5th and 8th and 12th were read and approved as read. The applications of W. H. Mills, and of Joseph R. Silva for permit to make certain repairs to their residences, laid over until the Contractor furnishes bond for Contractor's License. Application of Sno -White Creamery by ( 111alter Petersen) for license for Merchandise (Confectionery, Lunch,- Soft Drinks, etc.) referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council, as was also, the applications of Aaron Rabener for license to conduct a Junk business in the 1400 Block on Monterey Street, or in the 1100 Block on Higuera Street. The following applications for permit to hang signs were referred, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R: P. Howell, to.the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council: Rundles' Inc. - Neon Sign at Sno.-White Creamery - 888 Monterey Street Neon Sales & Service (Sam Holland)'- Neon Sign for Ed O'Reilly - 990 Higuera Street Application of Santa Maria Gas Company for permit to install 3" gas main on South Street between Lawton Street and Broad Street referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report on motion duly seconded and carried. The report of the City Clerk for the month ending November 30, 1938 re- ceived and ordered placed on file. Applications for the quarterly licenses were presented and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report. Petition of Frank V. Serpa Estate, by Executor, for transfer of licenses for Restaurant and Cigars Sideline at 676 Higuera Street to Souza, Craveiro & Son granted on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer. Application of Neon Sales and Service, by Sam Holland, for permit to hang an electric sign at 709 Higuera Street for Firestone Rubber Company, granted on favorable report of the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, with the provision that work be done according to provisions of Ordinance and under the supervision of the City Engineer, as was also, the application of Lulu Bowlus for permit to hang a sign for San Luis Fish Company at 680 Higuera Street under same provisions. 8j 28 . `I 0 l I� On motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by L. J. Defosset, Geo. R. Banks was permitted to remove a tree from sidewalk area at 869 Church Street. The applications of L. C. Bell, David Ball and Jame & Elizabeth Thompson for permit to recess curb for driveways on the east side of Morro Street between Leff and Church Streets granted, on motion of J. B. Berkemeyer, seconded by R. P. Howell, work to be done under supervision of the City Engineer. Re: Application of Archie Norton for permit to recess curb of sidewalk 10 ft. for driveway on the east side of Broad Street between Higuera sh Streets: It was moved by J. B. Berkemeyer and seconded by R. P. Howell that the application be granted. The motion lost. Matter laid over. Application of 'Halter F. Buck for permit to lay 50 ft. of curbing on st side of Grand Ave. between Mill Street and Murray Ave. granted on motion duly seconded and carried. Petition of H. J. Bello for permit.to install 1 -1000 gallon gasoline storage tank within garage building, part lots 4 and 5, block 87, Mission Vineyard Tract, granted on motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer with the pro- vision that installation be made in accordance with specifications of Board of Fire Underwriters and that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The following petitions were continued: Jennings Tent Show - for reduction of license fee. Walter B. Roselip for certain street work. Santa Maria Gas Co. - to replace gas main on Santa Rosa Street, between mlil and Marsh Streets. Petition of Fred Oldham et al re: W. P. A. workers transportation, referred to the City Engineer for investigation and report. On motion of L. J. Defosset, seconded by J. B. Berkemeyer, the following licenses was ordered cancelled: Oct. Felipe Cigars Sideline 3.00 on motion of R. P,-Howell, seconded by L. J. Defosset, the City Attorney was directed to bring suit against Duke's Master Bread Company, Weber Baking (;.Company and Channel Pie Company for licenses due to the City of'San Luis Obispo. It was moved by R. P. Howell and seconded by L. J. Defosset that the following licenses be cancelled, if found by the City Attorney and his advice that for any legal or other vital reason they should not be cancelled: Oct. Qt. 1935: - # 976 Jan.
