HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/17/1939City...Hall, Monday, July 17, 1939 - 7:30 P. M. City Council met in regular session - Mayor Fred C. Kimball presiding. Present: W.H.Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Absent: None The minutes of the meetings of the Council held on July 5th and 10th were 3 read and upon motion duly carried, were approved. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of June was presented and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy such report was received and ordered placed on file. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary, the application of A. R. and Rosie Smith for a building permit to construct an addition to the property on part of Block 3 was granted, subject to the contractors named in such permit having a contractor's license. ' On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the following building permits were granted: Rose Marie Cobb - Addition to storeroom in Block 40, Cost bw 200.00 L. C. Porter - Addition to present building, lot 6, Blk 119, Reeds Addn, Cost 150.00 Corra F. Eastman - To raze storeroom on rear of lot 8, Blk 135 On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary, the surety bond of John Madruga and James S. Ramos was approved and a contractor's license was directed to be issued to said John Madruga and James S. Ramos, The Merchandising Bond of A. E. Brooking was presented, with Mr. W. C. Carpenter as surety and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary such surety was accepted and the bond approved. The application of the Santa Maria Gas Company to install 3" gas main at the 1 intersection of Caudill and Lawton Streets was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works and the City Engineer, with power to act, upon motion of'Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary and carried. The application of J. H. Kirk to open two trenches to connect with sewer on Caudill Street was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, upon motion made by Joseph Leary, seconded by R. P. Howell and duly carried. The application of Natale Mainini to construct a 47 ft. concrete culvert on the rear of lot facing on Leff Street, between Broad and Nipoi;o.Streets, was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works and the City Engineer for investigation and report to the Council, upon motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by Joseph Leary. Upon motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell, the application of Flora C. and Willis H. Chase for permission to remove three shade trees on the north side of Islay Street near Santa Rosa Street was granted, the work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. A letter from the California State Fair in reference to "Mayor's Day" was ordered filed. ' Mr. Benner made an oral application to the Council for the extension of the sewer line on Fixlini Street near Upham Street and upon motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for inves- tigation and report. Mr. W. 0. Tudor addressed the Council regarding a Boulevard Stop Sign on the west side of Toro Street at Pismo Street and upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary, the matter was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety 3 36J nd the Chief of Folice.for.investigation and report. Ordinance No. 199 (New Series) - An Ordinance ordering the closing up and abandonment of those certain portions of Frederick Street and Victoria Street, herein- after described, in the City of San Luis Obispo, County of San Luis Obispo, State of California, was finally passed upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary by the following roll call vote: AYES: W.H.Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary FOES: None ABSENT: None The application of J. H. Kirk for a water main on Caudill Street, also appli- cation of Elizabeth Law for a water line outside of the City Limits were laid over for further report from the Commissioner of Public Works and the City Engineer. At the request of Commissioner of Ralph C. Kennedy,. the City Engineer was re- quested and directed to make a report to the Council in reference to the water mains on south Broad Street and in the Yoakum Tract. A discussion was had in reference to a new street roller needed by the City and Mayor Fred C. Kimball appointed Commissioners R. P. Howell and Joseph Leary as a Committee to make further investigation regarding street rollers and to report to the Council at its next meeting. Resolution No. 438 (New Series) - A Resolution providing for the execution of an agreement between the City of San Luis.Obispo and Smith Booth Usher Company was adopted by the following roll call vote: AYES: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary NOES: None ABSENT:. None A Resolution providing for the execution of an agreement between the City of San Luis Obispo and Lowe Sanitary District was presented to the Council and the adoption of such resolution was moved by Ralph,C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil and upon roll call, such motion was declared lost. Resolution No. 439 (New Series) - A Resolution providing for the execution of an agreement between The City of San Luis Obispo and Christ Steiner and Elsie Steiner was adopted and upon-motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary by the following roll call vote: AYES: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary NOES: None ABSENT: None Ordinance No. 200 (New Series) - An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 122 (New Series) by adding a new section numbered 4.3, relating to 15 minute parking spaces, and by amending section 4 of said Ordinance No. 122 (New Series) was introduced and passed to print upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following roll call vote: AYES: W.H.Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C. Kimball, Joseph Leary NOES: None ABSENT: None Upon motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the Council adjourned to July 24th, 1939 at7:30 P. M. upon the following roll call: AYES: W. H. Brazil, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Fred C.
