Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph-Leary Absent: None The minutes of March 18th and 26th were read and approved as read. The following applications for pe nnit to build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil: Walter.SH1 and Ruth Goettsche = Res. and Garage, part of Lots 11 & 12, Block 90, M & C..Addn. Cost $5360.00 John -A. Dana - Res. and Garage, Lot 12, Blk 4, Fixlini Tract, " 35001.00 S. S. Karns - Res. and Garage, Lot 11, Blk 1, Escuela Alta Subdivision " 4250.00 W. L. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. .Kennedy the following appli- cations for permit to move buildings were granted: Frank J. Silveria - To move a garage from a part of Lot '6, Block l to Lot 100 Block 71 Weills Addition, Walter V. & Bertha Smith - To move building from Avila into the City of San Luis Obispo and locate same on the center 50 feet of Lot 29 Blk 79 Manuel Gularte - To raze building in Edward Lowe Subdivision. The petition of B.Hemem for transfer of license for the Coffee Pot Lunch at 882 Marsh Street to Don E. Williams was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for report to the Council, on motion of R. P: Howell, seconded by W. H.Brazil. The application of the Model Linen Supply, by H. B. Page,for permit to hang a wooden sign at 348 Higuera Street referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. The petition of Lawrence Austin for permit to break sidewalk at 868 Monterey Street in order to repair electric street light standard was granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, with the provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The following applications for permit to connect with sewer were granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City- Engineer:- A. Schleim - Garden Street between.Islay and Leff Streets J. A. Dana - Fixlini Street southerly from Lizzie Street The reports of the City Collector and the Pound Master f.or,the month of March were received and ordered placed on file. Application of Hilderbrand's United Shows and Combined Circus for license for carnival to beheld the latter part of April or May was received and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. It was moved by Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil that election officers serving for the Caudill Tract Annexation election be compensated in the amount of $6.00 each for their services and, that the amount of $10.00 be allowed for rental of the Latter Day Saint's Church, used as a polling place for such election. Motion carried. Claims against the City for the month of March were ordered paid subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. 1 7 L 'J 1 1 LLI �J 1 1 1 1 A petition was presented reque§ting.that the Co�incil pass a "Sunday Closing Law" - matter was discussed at length and! the Mayor appointed the folloving committee to act in conjunction with a like committee to be appointed by the Chamber of Commerce to study the matter: Rev. J. M. Alley, Chairman S. Leguina A. A. Bay E. Chapel A. B. Barton Commissioner R. P. Howell reported favorable action on the application of H. Mainini for permit to install a culvert in the rear of Lot 7, Block 94. Murray & Church Add I The application of Neon Sales & Service for permit to hang a neon sign at 664 Pacific Street was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, with the provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer and in accordance with ordinance. Re: petition of I. 0. Compton fora Stop Signal at the intersection of Mill & Grove Streets: Commissioner of Public Health and Safety reported unfavorable and recommended that no "Stop Sign" be placed at the said location, but suggested that the hedges be t Commissioner R. P. Howell reported that favorable action had been taken on-the application of W. E. Patchett for permit to connect with sewer on Corralitos Ave. between Andrews Street and Cazadero Street in:Escuela Alta Subdivision. The application of Mrs. Joe Green for license for Lodging House at 1042 Palm Street was granted on motion of W.-H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. Ordinance No. 213 (New Series) - An Ordinance emending Ordinance No. 122 (New Series) by adding a new Section to be known as "Section 3J" relating to truck routes was finally passed on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil.by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None. The matter of the petition of E. D.-Dunning et al, giving notice of intention to circulate petition for annexation of Mt. Pleasanton Square Addition to the City of San Luis Obispo was continued for one week.- , Resolution No. 500 (New Series) - A Resolution determining and classifying certa streets as Streets of Major Importance within the City of San Luis Obispo, for the purpose 1* 0 of expending thereon gas tax funds was passed and adopted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell by the following vote: Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Sowell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F.. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None Ordinance No. 214 (New Series) - An Ordinance providing for the levying and col- lection of a.tax to pay the principal and interest of the .City of San Luis Obispo Water Bonds of 1939, Series "B" was introduced and passed to print on motion of R. P.. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by-the--following vote: Ayes: W.H.Brazil,.R. P. Howell, Ralph C..Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent; None The City Engineer outlined a proposed plan for the improvement of the following named streets under.the "Street-Improvement Act ": CHCRRO STREET - Pacific Street to Broad Street GARDEN STREET - Buchon Street to Upham Street LEFF STREET - Osos Street to-Broad Street CHURCH STREET - Osos Street to Broad Street UPHAM STREET - Santa Barbara Ave. to Broad Street 3
