HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/08/1940m The matter was discussed and the Council called an informal meeting for Thursday evening, April 4th, 1940 at-7:30 P. M. at the Presbyterian Educational Building, at which time interested property owners were requested to be present for discussion of the proposed plan of improvement with the Council. On motion of W. H: Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, Glen Allen was named as a full time employee at a salary of $125.00 per month beginning April 1, 1940 - the salary to be equally divided between the street department and the fire..department. A. V.-Muller et al appeared relative to the opening aiid lighting of Sycamore Street and Fig Street. Matter was discussed and the Council suggested that a formal petition'be filed relative to the matter. Mr. Van Schoonhoven appeared relative to sewer connection at Santa Rosa and Stenner Streets, and on motion of'Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil, the matter was referred to the-Commissioner of Public-Works, with power to act. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil the meeting adjourned to April 8th,'1940 at 7:30 P. M. Brazil: Lloyd Pettenger - Lunch Stand - Part of Lot 13, Block 29, Cost $ 400.00 The matter of the request of Howard R. Pond for inspection by the City Building Inspector of a residence under construction in Loma Verde Acres, Tract 11, was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act on motion duly seconded and carried, On motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph-C. Kennedy the following appli- cations for licenses were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for in- vestigation and report to the Council: Roland C. Forden was referred to the Commissioner'of Public Health sidewalk, Lot 1, and Safety for report to the Council. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R.. P. Howell the following appli- cations for permit to lay sidewalk were referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, and with further provision that work be done under the supervision lof the City Engineer: H. O'Daniels.- 60.5 ft. of 4 ft. sidewalk, Lot 1, Blk 3, Anholm Addh. B. H. Gibson.- 50.5 ft. of 4 ft. sidewalk, Lot 2, Blk 3, Anholm Addn. The report,of the Police Judge for the month of March received and ordered 1placed on file. The application of E. L. Fauset for registration as Class "D" Contractor, together with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co: bond in the amount of $1000.00 and regis- tration fee of $25.00 received, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell the surety was accepted, bond approved and registration granted. The application of Scott Roofing Coj►pany by E: L. Scott for registration as Class "F" Contractor., together with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co: bond in.the amount of $200.00 and registration fee of $10:00 received, and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell the surety was accepted, bond approved and registration granted. Certification received from Paul Peek, Secretary of State, relative to the acceptance of Caudill Tract and a part-of the Imperial Addition and approving the annexati as a part of the City of San Luis Obispo as.of April It 1940 was received and on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, it was ordered that the certificate be placed on file, The petition of R. Leal et al requesting that concrete curbs be constructed on a portion of High Street, Beebee Street and Cypress Street under the "Works Progress Administration" was received and on motion duly seconded and carried the matter was placed on file for future reference. This being the date fixed for receiving Bids on $25,000.00 City San Luis Obispo Water Bonds of 19399 Series "B" in accordance with official notice of sale dated March 18th, 19401 the following is a list of all Bids received which were publicly opened and read: Dean Witter & Co.. Bonds of 1939, Series "B ", the sum of par, accrued interest to date of delivery, and a premium of $758.25, certified check in the amount of $750.00 accompanied said bid. X aiser & Co.. Bonds of 1939, Series "B ", the sum of par, accrued interest to date of delivery, and a premium of $328.00, certified check in the amount of $900.00 accompanied said bid. It appearing that the bid of Dean Witter & Co. was the best bid of all bids received, 45V Resolution No. 501 (New Series) - A Resolution selling $25,000.00 principal amount of City of San Luis Obispo Water Bonds of 1939, Series "B" to Dean Witter & Co. at the price named in their bid was adopted and passed on motion of R. F. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote: Ayes: W.H.Brazil, R.P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Joseph Leary the Clerk was directed to return the certified checks accompanying the above bids to the unsuccessful bidders. Motion carried. Resolution No. 502 (New Series) - A Resolution directing the County Recorder to cancel two erroneous tag deeds was passed and adopted'on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Joseph Leary by the following vote: Ayes: W.H.Brazil, R.F. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None Ordinance'No. 214 (New Series) - An Ordinance providing for the levying and collection of a tag to pay the principal and interest of the City of San Luis Obispo itlater Bonds of 1939, Series "B" was finally passed on,'motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W..H. Brazil by the following vote: Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F.-C. Kimball, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: None The petition of B. Hemen for transfer of license for Lunch Counter at 882 Marsh Street to Don E. Williams was granted on motion of W.-H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of the Model Linen Supply for permit to hang a wooden sign at 348 Higuera Street, and the application of Hilderbrand's United Shows for permit to hold a. carnival were bontinued. It was moved by W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy that a sodium vapor light be installed at Marsh and Morro Streets and at Marsh and Broad Streets. Matter discussed.
