Kennedy, F. C. Kimball, Joseph Leary lAbsent: None The minutes of April 1st and8th were read and approved as read. The following applications for permit to build were granted on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph-C. Kennedyl: Alvin R. Dillon - Residence and Garage, Part of Lots 1, 2 and 3, Block 7, Buena Vista - Addition, Cost 3900.00 Frank Dickey.- To remodel Winter Garden:.building, Block 229 Cost. 1800.00 George Muff - Residence and Garage, part of Venable Tract, Cost 3500.00 John Burch - Addition to residence , part of Block 61 , Cost 240.00 Wilfred Zanoli - Addn. to residence, part of Lot 6, Block 54, Cost 990.00 The application of Chas. M. and-Ruby Hemstreet for permit to make an addition to garage, Lots 11 and 12, Block 5, Weills Addition, at a cost of $50.00 was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H•. Brazil. ` The application of George Samiel for license for phrenology referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. The application of 111m. Righetti for permi.t-to open trench to connect with sewer on-Mill Street between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets granted, on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by W. H. Brazil with the provision that work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer. The report of the City Clerk for the month ending March 31st, 1940 received and ordered placed o n- file, The application of M. M. Stocker for registration as Class "F" contractor 5ogether with U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty Co. bond in the amount of $500.00 and registrati fee of $10.00 received and on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the was accepted, bond approved and registration granted. 45? H. Brazil, it was ordered that a street light be tal led as petitioned-for, A petition by E. D. Bray et al for the improvement of Peach Street from Santa sa Street to Morro Street and Osos Street from Peach Street to Mill Street by paving and installing concrete curbs and gutters was received, and on motion of'Joseph,Leary, seconded by 11. H. Brazil said petition was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works 'or investigation and report. The petition of Mrs. Hedwig L. Smith et al for the improvement of Church Street 3asterly from Osos Street to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company's right of way by oiling said street by road mix methods was received and onmotiog of Joseph Leary, seconded by W. H 3razil the petition was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act. Petition- received from Paul C. Shirley protesting the use of Chorro Street Dugh Anholm Addition being used by trucks: Matter discussed and on motion of R. P. Howell, onded by W. H. Brazil, petition was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and afety, with power to act. Communication.from E. Chappel relative to Sunday closing of stores was re- ferred to the City Attorney. M On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by.R. P. Howell the following applications for licenses were granted: Ronald C. Higuera Street ( Son Drinks The petition of George A. Isola for transfer of license for Merchandise at 1033 Cho rro Street to S. M. Forden granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R..P. Howell' Petition of Model Linen Supply by H. B. Page., for permit to hang a wooden sign.to extend across-sidewalk at 348 Higuera Street for the Model Linen supply Co. was denied on motion of Ralph C..Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. Application of Hilderbrand's United Shows and Combined Circus for license for carnival continued. The plan of Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, relative to marking stre names by some permanent method was referred to the City Engineer for study. The request of the Veteran:.'s Housing Committee for permission to hold a street r: parade on Memorial Day was granted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell said parade to be under the supervision of the Department of Public Health and Safety. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H. Brazil it was ordered that.the Commissioner of Finance be authorized to make certain changes in Fire insurance cover- age, on certain City property, in accordance with schedule on file, thereby making certain increases, decreases, elimination and addition amounting to an increase in cover- age of $9,700.00. Commissioner of Public Works reported favorable action on the application of H. O'Daniels and B. H. Gibson for permit to lay sidewalk in the Anholm Addition. On motion of R. P: Howell, seconded-by Ralph C. Kennedy, the meeting.adjourned to Monday, April 22nd, 1940 at 7:30 P. M. Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R.P.Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, F. C.
