The request of the fiesta committee that street stringers and lights be put up by the City for the occasion was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report to the Council. The application of the Union Oil Company for permit to dig test holes to locate leaks in oil line on Pismo Street between Beach Street and Nipomo Street , -Pas grant on motion of R. P. Hoy,iell, seconded by W. H. Brazil,- work to be done under the super- vision of the City Engineer. The following applications of the Sants Maria Gas Co. were granted with the provision that the work be done under the supervision of the City Engineer: (1) - To'break pavement and die trench 18" wide on the East side of Broad Street, from Islay Street to Higuera Street. To replace 2" gas main with a 4" main. (2) - To break cavement 1' Y 50' on L.:� %lton Street between Tlvoodbridg,e Street and Funston Street to install gas service to Joe Bettencourt residence, 2420 Lawton Street. The reports of the City Collector, the Police Judge, the Pound Master and the Chief of Police for the month of April were received and ordered placed on file on motion of Ralph C. Kennedv, seconded by T.N. H. Brazil. Thal petition of the Standard Oil Co. ofICalifornia, for permit to install a 3000 crallor_ underground gasoline storage tank at the Standard Service Station No. 584, at 205 Higuera Street referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for in- vestigation and report to the Council. The apolication of Rundle's Inc. for permit to install neon signs at 894 Higuera Street for -Carl E. Pierce, and also, at 1422 Monterey Street for V. C. Brisco were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and.Safety for .investigation and report to the Council on motion duly seconded and carried. Application of the Valley Electric Co. for permit to hang a neon sign for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. at the corner of Monterey and Morro Streets was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council, on motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of the Valley Electric Co. for permit to move a sign from Monterey end Chorro Streets to the corner of Santa Rosa and Higuera Streets for the Standard Auto Parts Co. :cgs referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, the applications of Foster & Kleiser Co. for permit to erect advertising panels in Block 61 and on Lots 7 & 89 Block 1 of Central Addition were granted. Joseph Leary voted "No ". On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the applications of Foster & Kleiser Co. for permit to erect advertising panels in Block 109, Mission Vineyard Tract and in Block 118, Reeds Addition were denied. The petition of Frances Goessi et al for curb and gutter work on Caudill Stree between La�vton Ave. and Story Street, and the petition of H. J. Dubin et al for curb 41 s 1 and gutter work on Hathway Ave. between Toro Street and the North City limits were re- ceived and ordered olaced on file for future reference. The petition of F. D. Muzio et al for the improvement of Pismo Street between Osos and Morro Streets by road mix method was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works for investigation and report, on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W.H.Brazil. Claims against the City for the month of April were ordered paid subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor, on :'motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil. W. T. Shipsey, representing the temporary recreational committee, appeared and addressed the Council relative to making,that body a permanent organization. Howell, with theprovision that work be done'under.the supervision of the City Engineer and under the provisions of ordinance. The petition of George Dawson for transfer of licenses for Lunch Counter and Soft Drinks at 1088 Higuera Street to Viola Scott was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell, The application of K. Tsunashima for license for Soft Drinks at 100 Higuera Street granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. Application of Frank Btidger for license for Shooting Gallery at 1030 Morro Street granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by R. P. Howell. Edward and Ida Harkins - For permit to make an addition of wash room in Block 19, of Central Addition, The City Engineer presented Investigation Report under "Special Assessment Investigation, Limitation and Majority Protest Act of 1931" for the improvement of, CHORRO STREET - From Pacific St. to Broad St. GARDEN STREET - From Buchon St. to Upham St. LEFF STREET - From Broad St. to Osos St. CHURCH STREET - From Broad St. to Osos St. UPHAM STREET - From Broad St. to Santa Barbara Ave. The report was ordered filed. Resolution No. 506 (New Series) - A Resolution approving Report and fixing the time and place of Hearing on the hereinabove named Improvement as June 17th, 1940 at 7:30 P.
