Pr =sent: W.H.Brazil, R. 1. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Joseph Leary Absent: Mayor F. C. Kimball The minutes of June 3rd and 10th were read and approved as read. The following applications fcr permit to build were granted on motion of Joseph Leary, Seconded by IN. H. Brazil: S. L. 0. City Schools - Playroom, Block 111, Mission Vineyard Tract, Cost $ 500.00 Alice A. Benedict - Addn. to residence, Lot 71 Blk 5, Norton Addn. 650:00 The petition of Al H. Rogers ( De Luxe Cab Co. ) for transfer of license for taxicab at 1088 Higuera Street to Ches. L. Gray was referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for.investigation and report to the Council. Application of Harry J. Laird for permit to cut pavement on Monterey Street between Osos and Santa Rosa Streets to install sewer connections to accommodate Greyhound Lines Rest Depot was received and on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, was referred to the Commissioner of Public Works, with power to act. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. H. Brazil the applications of Rose Marie Cobb, 1208 Peach Street and of Ah Louis Store, corner of Palm and Chorro Stree for permit to sell safe and sane fireworks, under rules and regulations of the California Health and Safety Code, were referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety, with power to act. The report of the City Clerk for the month ending Mlay 31st, 1940 was received and ordered placed on file. The resignation of Leonard Lenger as Superintendent of Streets and Ex- Officio City Engineer of the City of San Luis Obispo was received and on moti--n of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W.H. Brazil the said resignation was accepted. In a communication, Harold T.Anderson, Post No. 1766 Veterans of Foreign liars, by James H. Carter, Chairman of the Band equipment fund, requested the Council for con- tribution to be used to assist in defraying expenses of transporting the veterans' band to the Department Encampment at Oakland, California, June 23rd, to 27th inclusive. Matter discussed and on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by 73. H. Brazil it was ordered th::t the request be denied on the grounds that such contribution would be contrary to charter provisions. Communication from Allied Veterans County Council, by Leland H. Miller was received and ordered placed on file on motion duly seconded and carried. Applications for the quarterly licenses were presented and referred to the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report to the Council. Communication from Henry A. Cross, Secretary of the San Luis Obispo Co- Ordinat Council was read and ordered placed on file. A resolution from the California State Assembly was read relative to cities and counties establishing a community yard for the collection and preservation of scrap iron. Matter discussed and referredLto the Commissioner of Supplies, Joseph Leary. Applicatic-n of Cery Arcaina for license for Soft Drinks at 834 Palm Street was granted on motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy. The application of Helen Adams for license for Boarding House at 964 Cho rro Str�et was granted on favorable report and motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy, .provided the application is approved by the Health Department. U 1 1 1 i 1 1 C 0 i I r v Commissioner of Public Works, R. P. Howell, reported favorable action on the ( � application of A. 0. Johnson for sewer connection on Caudill Street between Story Street and Lawton Street. Application of the San Joaquin Power Division, Pacific Gas and Electric Co. No. 268 for permit to set three poles on Lincoln Street between Chorro and Mission Streets Anholm Addition, was granted on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by,W. H. Brazil, with the provision that the three poles be neatly painted. Commissioner of Public Works, R. P. Howell reported favorable on the petition of G. F. Muff requesting extension of water line and sewer line on Mt. View Street to ex- tend 125 feet beyond Hill Street: stipulating that the petitioner agreed to furnish mater and that the city would do the work. On motion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Plotnik Truck 5.00 2790 - George Tani Truck 4.00 2793 - Mission .Taxi Service Taxicab 10.00 $ 39.50 This being the date set for hearing on the improvement of a portion of Chorro Street and.other streets ( reference Resolution No. 506 (New.Series) dated May 6th, 1940) fixing June 17th, 1940 as date for such hearing, the matter is now taken up by the_Council. City Attorney read investigation report under "Special Assessment Investigation, Limitation and Majority Protest Act of 1931 ", filed May6th, 1940. re: Improvement of Chorro Street, from Pacific to Broad Street; Garden Street, from Buchon Street to Upham Street; Leff Street, from Broad Street to Osos Street; Church Street , from Broad Street to Osos Street; and Upham St ;eet, from Broad Street to Santa Barbara Ave. There were no formal written or verbal protests filed by interested property owners. Resolution No. 511 (New Series) - A Resolution of report by Legislative Body on Investigation Report hearing was duly and regularly adopted on motion of Ralph C. Kenn seconded by W. H. Brazil by the following vote: Ayes: W.H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: F. C. Kimball Resolution No. 512 (New Series) - A Resolution determining that limitation of.indebtedness may be exceeded (after hearing before legislative body) was duly and regularly adopted on motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by W. ii. Brazi•1 by the following vote: Ayes: W. H. Brazil, R. P. Howell, Ralph C. Kennedy, Joseph Leary Noes: None Absent: F. C. Kimball Re: AEpointment of Street Superintendent and Ex- Officio City Engineer: On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by W. H.-Brazil, Kenneth Beck was nominated for the position of Street Superintendent and Ex- Officio City Engineer at a salary of $100.00 per month. Motion carried. Resolution.No. 513 (New Series) - A Resolution fixing the salary of the superintendent of streets of the City of San Luis Obispo at $100.00 per month was intro- duced and adopted onmotion of W. H. Brazil, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy by the following vote :
